About this deal

And to make it slightly more confusing, at an online tasting last year it was stated that there’s rum from Guatemala in there too, with the components aged up to 8 years. Merser Signature is a genuine and beautifully balanced smooth Golden Rum with hints of tropical fruits as well as butterscotch and an oaky sweetness. Elegant, distinctive and wonderfully smooth, its personality will shine through with your mixer of choice. A smooth and layered balance of fine Caribbean rums aged up to eight years, harmonised and rested for six weeks in London.

Back in London, we expertly blend these rums together and rest them in wooden barrels for 6 weeks in batches of just 400 bottles. Not a bad rum to enjoy in the evening with a friend, when you don't want to bring out the really good stuff! Such a smooth and delicious rum with a fascinating story – the best rums from the Caribbean blended in London (apparently London used to be a rum hub) with no added sweetness or colouring. The palate is mouth-coating, warming and generous with soft notes of vanilla, more of that tropical fruit and some wine-like notes created through the cask maturation process. According to James Hayman, his family was involved in the rum trade and blending over 100 years ago. Also sign me up for newsletters so I can get special offers, recommendations, and expert advice to my inbox! In keeping with traditions established by the London brewing houses of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, there is no sugar or coloring added to rum aged in oak barrels. Award-winning Merser Double Barrel Rum captures the best rums of the Caribbean, from Barbados, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica aged up to 12 years, which is then blended in the heart of London and left to “marry” in barrels for a further 6 months.

While we have taken care in preparing this summary and believe it is accurate, it is not a substitute for your reading the product packaging and label prior to use. In keeping with the traditions set by London's merchant blending houses of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, there's no sugar or colouring to be seen here, just good old fashioned rum rested in oak.

Merser Double Barrel is a delicious artisanal blended rum that will offer you a wonderful elegant taste with notes of chocolate, vanilla, fruit and spices. With a toasty oak character, hints of vanilla and soft woody spice, Double Barrel is sophisticated, complex and surprisingly dry. If you do require precise ingredient information you should consult the manufacturer, whose contact details will appear on the packaging or label.

Award-winning Merser seeks out the world’s finest rums, then blends them in London to bring out their individual characteristics in perfect harmony. Personally I’m a fan of full-bodied “Navy style” multi-island blends with rums from Barbados, Jamaica and Guyana, but I just tried two brands in one week ( Golden Heist Rum and this one) that contain rums from Dominican Republic, Barbados and Jamaica and I’m not hating it. Double Barrel rum is a blend of blends where all the components perfectly complement each other by building layers of flavour and complexity. Nice color, smell like fruit with hint of vanilla smooth, taste is good, cream and sweet but with hint of fruit, end is nice and smooth.

Choose from either Fever Tree Spiced Orange Ginger Ale, Fever Tree Madagascan Cola or Fever Tree Ginger Ale. It may not be reproduced in any way whatsoever without the prior consent of Waitrose Limited nor without due acknowledgement. Even if the profile tends to be more towards the light and woody Dominican Republic rums, I found that the Barbadian and Jamaican component additions add some nice vibrant fruit layers along with a bit more body, but not too much so it overtakes the overall easy-going style. If we have many of the same product available, the photo represents the less well preserved of them.
