Even with the amazing work NECA has been doing on all of their properties over the past couple of years, particularly on the Alien and Predator franchises, I still hold true to my assertion that my favorite property they are currently working on is Gremlins. Comes supplied with a transparent plastic laboratory beaker (previously released in the cult classics Mohawk gremlin) and a display stand, the stand is a simple peg and slot base but please be aware that one end is hexagon shaped so check which end goes where or the peg can become jammed in the base. This incredible re-creation of the Spider Gremlin puppet seen in Gremlins 2: The New Batch features over 30 points of articulation, including the eight massive spider legs that are articulated in three places each.

The paint and sculpting on the figure is fantastic, and NECA have really done a fine job of bringing this guy to life, so much so that I could imagine young kids or arachnophobes being quite freaked out by him. The figure itself is one of three figures that truly show the work and dedication that sets neca far above its rivals (the other figures being the stunning alien queen and the awesome Ed-209). abdominal crunch, ball joints at the tail and thorax points, and ball joints in two places on ALL of the legs.The best way to do that is to let some of his legs curl a little more beneath his body, so his weight is evenly-distributed and not entirely centered underneath him. As always the figure is designed for the adult collectors market and kept boxed this figure will rapidly appreciate in value.

the legs are hard to get in and yeah you do need a hair dryer or something, i was told to use a lighter. His normal flesh tones transition between shades of green and tan, and none of it looks sudden or unnatural. Again, the screen to plastic translation is scary and every little detail from tooth to claw is rendered amazingly. I love Phoebe Cates' Lincoln's birthday speech, making fun of her own dramatic Christmas speech from the first movie.

The package is surprisingly small, considering what's inside, which is good for storage and shelf space. He has his flask of spider juice (reused from the standard Mohawk), which fits nicely into his left hand.

When I got it out of the box and assembled I was gobsmacked by how good it is, so if you're thinking about getting one just do it; you won't regret it. They have produced "impossible" toys like this and the Predator Trophy Wall, appealed directly to fan nostalgia with the Kenner Predators and NES Jason and Freddy, have opened the gateway to fan-designed toys with the Dead End Predators, genuinely improved series 2 of Pacific Rim after hearing fan feedback, have snagged lots of awesome but unlikely licenses, and just overall have ben an incredible company. As I mentioned, it does require some assembly, in that you have to attach the legs, and this could prove very difficult unless you heat up the sockets for the balljoints, either with a hairdryer or some hot water.But this Spider Gremlin, while certainly the best NECA Gremlins item ever produced, might be the best thing NECA has made, period.
