About this deal

This light is all about lighting up all around you very brightly and can’t really be used for slowly sweeping across the horizon, looking for animals or hidden paths. I normally prefer side switches but the switch positions Nitecore have picked make good sense for its intended use. Via a cut-out below the slide you will quickly know which position it is in; also on the opposite side of the mode switch you can find this type of slot that helps you find the button by feel.

In mode 2 press and hold the power button for momentary illumination in the previously used brightness setting, and change the brightness level by pressing the mode button to cycle through ultralow, low, mid, high while still holding the power button. The Nitecore Tiny Monster series of flashlights are the pinnacle of the range with world leading performance and features. The indicator will also show battery power when the torch is turned on with a solid light for above 50%, a slow flashing light for 10-50% or a rapid flashing light for below 10%, at which point charging is advised asap. Lockout mode: flashlight is locked preventing it from accidentally turning on at 100% brightness, setting your sofa on fire, and burning down your whole house, while you barely escaped only having time to grab the rest of your flashlights and jumping through window. If you immediately reactivate Turbo, you can do this two further times (three times before a cooling off period) where the thermal protection prevents the TM20K from going above High mode even using the Turbo button.Great in emergency situations to provide yourself with enough light for a longer period of time and also practical if you use the light indoors. Nitecore have been known for making high-quality flashlights for over a decade and their “TM” range has been around for almost as long.

The Nitecore TM20K has really compact dimensions, comparable to a flashlight with a maximum of 10000 lumens. Mode 2 is the tactical mode which will only provide momentary illumination while the button is being held down, with access to the four brightness levels. The NITECORE TM20K is the brightest of the Tiny Monster series, yet still remains a compact handheld size thanks to new technology and improved design.Choosing between light modes and the functions of the central button for turbo and strobe is the same as in the daily mode, with one main difference: the flood and the spotlight mode are not available in the tactical mode. I don’t think I have any other rectangular flashlights and the shape will stand out in any collection.

To turn on the torch it first needs to be taken out of the default lockout upon arrival, which is done by ensuring the toggle switch is on the lockout icon, then holding down the side mode button while sliding the toggle button along to mode 1 or mode 2, and then releasing the mode button. With the cooling caused by the fan there is a higher light output but at the expense of the working time (runtime) of the TM20K.

We just needed something reliable and handy to light up the whole of the garden when taking dogs out last thing at night. However, if you struggle to carry a single 21700 flashlight then you’re not going to be able to carry this either. The light will then not be able to turn on with any buttons or movement of the toggle switch until the previous steps have been followed. It’s possible I’ve made a mistake but I’m guessing that Nitecore have tweaked the proportion of spot vs flood on some of the modes. For transport or carry, you can lock the TM20K, set it to daily mode for constant illumination, or set it to tactical mode for momentary illumination. Inside the package we find the Nitecore TM20K with the Clip inserted, a rigid holster, a USB-C charging cable, a lanyard, the user manual (multilingual) and a card with photos of some of the previous Tiny Monsters produced by Nitecore in these years.
