Having read both Kiran Millwood Hargrave’s adult and YA fiction, I actually think that this curious little tale is my favourite although I would have liked to have learnt a little more about the wider world in which the story was set.The convent orphanage is exactly as awful as it sounds; Sister Rosa seems sickeningly sweet, but the children are scared, and they keep disappearing in the night -a mystery that kept me guessing for most of the book. Every chapter is just gripping and you just get lost in a world of curious and magic, with a bit of truth mixed in.
