About this deal

It did even better at the Academy Awards because not only did it earn four nominations there as well — Costume Design, Makeup, Sound Effects Editing and Art Direction-Set Decoration — but it actually won in the former three categories. It marked Coppola’s follow-up to the Oscar-nominated “The Godfather Part III” from 1990, and it was one of Hopkins’ first major projects after winning the Best Actor Academy Award for “The Silence of the Lambs.

The new 4K disc enjoys the Love Song For A Vampire Music Video by Annie Lennox, which is a nice addition, the track itself a lovely closing to the feature.

It marked to date the last celebrated film directed by Francis Ford Coppola, who has made five films since that have mostly gone ignored. Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here break down all the snubs and surprises. The cinematographer, Michael Ballhaus, gets into the spirit so completely he always seems to light with shadows. I don’t think they anticipated my dedication to living up to my end of the bargain as I dutifully read the book while at summer camp that year and loved it. In an interview with Fangoria after the film’s release, Winona Ryder, who played one of the main leads in the film, Mina Harker, presented Coppola with the screenplay written by James V.

Awards season in early 1993 didn’t start well for “Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” the film being passed over by critics groups outside of a lone Best Cinematography win from the Chicago Film Critics. Sony once again goes the extra mile for a catalog title, this time giving Bram Stoker’s Dracula - which already had an excellent 4K HDR transfer - a beautiful Dolby Vision upgrade. Back in the early 90s, horror was not really a flashy genre, let alone having one of the great American directors at the helm. Some great movies like Friday the 13th and Halloween still hold up to this day but others like Sleepaway Camp or Hardrock Zombies, not so much. This new Region A Blu-ray release captures the director's intention with a great picture and a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. Since 2001, we've brought you uncompromising, candid takes on the world of film, music, television, video games, theater, and more. Qualms, niggles, and grumbles aside, I still very much enjoy this film but I’m not blind to its many faults. In addition, the Golden Globes completely ignored it, which paved the way for the film potentially coming up short on Oscar nominations morning, too.

Like a throwback to something out of John Boorman's Excalibur, Coppola's blood-drenched Romeo and Juliet-inspired setup informs the entire rest of the movie, which somehow manages to evoke the feeling of Stoker's original letter-based structure whilst also remaining resolutely coherent in terms of actual narrative. years later and Bram Stoker's Dracula still holds up as one of the most popular vampire movies and one of the best horror movies of all time. While I missed out on seeing it in theaters, my Dad held up his end of the bargain and rented it for me on tape when it was available at our local Video Watch. using a Wide Colour Gamut (WCG), High Dynamic Range (HDR10 and Dolby Vision), and is encoded using the HEVC (H. Then, the scene cut to the deck of the Demeter and the captain’s log before cutting to Van Helsing’s perspective. It's in the HDR, WCG and here Dolby Vision implication that the magic really happens though, with so much depth to the shadows, such fabulous handling of the contrast, and rich tones giving life to the ornately intricate settings and lavish accoutrements. The script itself is a triumph for the character considering that it stays the truest to Stoker’s 1897 novel.

He chooses eternal perdition because his beloved wife, Elisabeta (also Ryder), has committed suicide, thus incurring her own damnation.Coppola directs with all the stops out, and the actors perform as if afraid they will not be audible in the other theaters of the multiplex. The movie also depicted the scene from the book where Jonathan Harker was dominated by three vampire women, a concept that was unheard of in the late 1800s. Those with Dolby Vision-supported televisions will most likely see and appreciate the little intricacies it offers. Francis Ford Coppola's lavishly crafted interpretation of Bram Stoker's classic novel Dracula is an audacious work of cinematic art, charmingly flawed by a couple of off-kilter performances, but equally so damn outlandish in its own flavoursome way that you don't care, particularly with a career-defining Oldman centre-stage. Coppola went all-out to produce one of the most heavily effects-laden non-CG productions in the history of cinema, and all of these should rightly take their toll on the final product when held up to close - say, 4K - scrutiny.
