You’re welcome to test these without cheese and try say zucchini but they make be a bit lacking in flavour. If you are in the market for extending your crockery, Portmeirion do have quite a few designs that suit the occasion of afternoon tea perfectly.

I doubled the recipe and added paprika and for 4 adults and a small toddler we had plenty, although a triple batch would have been demolished as well! Best eaten on the day you make them, for our family we would normally double the recipe as they never last long!

The mayonnaise in my cheese savoury recipe has been spiked with paprika and dijon mustard to create an altogether more modern take on this sandwich filling. My great aunt used to make biscuits just like these every Christmas, the only difference is that she would put a blanched almond in the top. Sift flour and baking powder into a bowl and add the nutmeg, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, salt and pepper. In total this recipe will make around 16 dainty sandwiches each measuring approximately 3cm wide by 8cm long. From ales to apple juice, cordials to coconut water, decaffeinated coffee to dirty chai, you'll find it all on the following pages.
