I've just bought a Drayton Multizone Smart Thermostat and 5 of their smart TRVs and looking for advice on the best way to set things up so had a few questions. The main message I got from the video is that the small energy savings made by turning down, or off, rooms individually are lost due to the gas boiler now running less efficiently.Restricting what the boiler does too much can have an inverse effect on boiler efficiency and how the boiler operates. It needs a Hive smart hub to work (sold separately) but is an easy system to install and get up and running.
Simply screw off/on existing TRVs and replace with Wiser Radiator Thermostats to expand your current system. If you put the room stat in a room with no smart TRV it is controlling the heating in all the rooms without a smart TRV.It was hoped it would become industry standard with all the boiler manufacturers subscribing, but sadly they haven’t, and in a bid to tie us into their system with extended warranties and the like if you adopt their controls they’ve developed their own versions of it e.
After calibration which itself seems to sound like the solenoid inside the TRV takes around 10 seconds to close, when the TRV is sent a signal to open, it sounds like the opening only lasts 2 seconds, net result no heat. One or two people on my YouTube community platform have said they wish it communicated over wifi, but Drayton kept communication off wifi deliberately because if your wifi goes down, the system keeps functioning.
