Each faction has a different design of ship so it’s easy to tell which race you’re playing as even if you struggle telling apart the colours. These might be improvements to weapons, engines, shields or a number of other aspects; all of which will improve your fleet’s chances when they get to grips with the enemy.
When I was teaching her the rules, I could easily see her rolling her eyes as I explained the rules to her, and she had no problem voicing her concern that playing Eclipse would end up being a waste of her precious time due to the nature of the mechanics. The online chatter I’ve seen indicated that Eclipse really sings at 4+ players, which made me a little nervous. Furthermore, if you are able to destroy a ship before it attacks then they are out and don’t get to attack, so needless to say initiative is very important. Better get those ship upgrades right or you’ll be very embarrassed when your armada collapses in the face of the enemy defence fleet. There are three different colors of techs, each focusing on a specific idea like ship upgrades, military or economy.
