About this deal

This book is a collection of personal essays written by a multitude of brave, clever, strong, passionate women. As well as discussing this pervasive media stereotype of female competition, Keira shares her experiences of shame, sexual objectification and motherhood. Moreover, as I'm not new to reading about feminism, I feel like I only learnt something new from a minority of writing pieces, so that was a bit of a let-down, but the book isn't at fault in that! Tidak lupa, masih ada rekomendasi bacaan yang bisa dieksplor lebih jauh oleh pembaca yang tertarik mengenal "feminisme".

She is a contributing editor for The Sunday Times Style newspaper titled The Generation Z Hit List; her job is essentially to watch TV, google things and listen to podcasts and she really can't imagine anything better. There are in-depth essays from prevalent activists such as Jameela Jamil, on bringing up a boy in a feminist world, and Trisha Shetty on being fuelled by anger and a desperation for equality. But overall, in the end, the ratio of high-quality content to filler was just not enough to satisfy me. And maybe that’s more to do with my own thoughts than anything the book said, but it did really push the idea of not criticising women. While there are things we can do in our individual lives to change things, it's important we recognise the bigger picture.

You can identify as a feminist and act according to your feminism and still hurt the movement as a whole (see SWERFs and TERFs). Often funny, sometimes surprising, and always inspiring, this book aims to bridge the gap between the feminist hashtag and the scholarly text by giving women the space to explain how they actually feel about feminism.

Yet earlier, it also stated that "Most of the amazing women who have contributed to this book probably don't know much more about feminism than you do" ( p.And while there was a nice twenty-ish page essay on the history of feminism, it was the very last essay in the book. However, if your feminism is solely motivated by how it benefits you then it's extremely fragile, as a) it only takes someone else with a conflicting experience to devalue it, and b) it makes you much more susceptible to acting only in favour of you and people like you, rather than recognising the challenges facing people who are different - challenges where you may actually be part of the problem. This week on the Feminists Don't Wear Pink podcast, Scarlett Curtis meets actor Keira Knightley whose raw piece on childbirth in the book attracted so much attention last year when the media immediately pitted against the Duchess of Cambridge who gave birth on the same day.
