About this deal

I would get used to these meetings and they would become almost second nature over the coming months, but for now, it was all so new to me and I was terrified to put a foot wrong. This was really just a meeting to see how we were all doing now that the care plan had been carried out and Billie was starting to settle in with us. It was emotional and complicated and delicate for every single person involved and we were all just trying to do our best for this wonderful little girl. I don’t know how Billie’s life is going to turn out, but I will do everything I can to help her be the happiest she can be. That first day we took her to the park and played on the swings, we fed the ducks and then came home and played with her toys. I cried through a lot of this book, not for sadness of what was not to be but of the grief I felt at the time and wasn’t able to express.A very warm and frank telling of the many years Lisa and her now ex husband and their infertility story. In a raw and inspiring story of one woman's journey through motherhood, family life and self-discovery, Lisa explores the many forms that family can take, and discovers the power of embracing your Plan B. Having experienced infertility before going on to have my own children, I felt a strong bond with Lisa and hope that others will be able to take comfort from her story.

Meant to Be: My Journey to Motherhood by Lisa Faulkner is out now in hardback and in paperback on 5th March. The things that I utterly relate to are that she always felt on the outside and that the grief never leaves you . She really needed us, and she needed us to step up to the mark and be the grown-ups and not let her down. A friend once said to me, ‘A snowflake never lands in the wrong place,’ and now I know what she means.

The book really hit home that not all is lost if things don’t go to plan, there are other avenues and that is the most important piece of information I have taken away from this inspiring journey to motherhood. Lisa’s words are beautiful and so many sentences could only be truly understood by those who have gone through the same journey.I hope I have shown her what it is to be in a loving relationship, and that life comes with its rips and tears, but they can be sewn up again. She went through IVF three times with her former partner, suffered an ectopic pregnancy, investigated surrogacy and then decided to adopt after finding out she was infertile.

A great reminder that our paths may be different to those intended, but we can still get to the destination. I didn’t need to worry, everyone had confidence in me – I had confidence in myself somewhere too, I just needed to find it. Excellent book for anyone thinking about adoption and asking themselves whether they are right for it. An easy listen with a lot of relatable content, but lacked the depth of was looking for in the topic of adoption. When Lisa Faulkner learned that she wouldn't have biological children, her plans and expectations for her life were derailed. At this moment Billie was in the shared care of the local authority and her birth mother; we were simply the foster carers until all the court assessments were completed. Luckily I got a miracle child with ivf but a friend has recently adopted and this has really helped me understand what she has been through too.
