About this deal

Belief you have control over what you do, that your actions matter, and you can impact the results in your life. When you start to get excited about your future it is very uplifting and it’s easier to let go of the past. This might be the most important book this author has written (and I’ve read all of his stuff so far). The key to real transformation, happiness and success, it reveals, is to be intentional about who we want to be and let that drive our current actions and behaviour. They make every decision from the time they get engaged to the time they get married in service of the person who will walk down the aisle.

Thinking from the perspective of his future self, though, he realizes that he will have wanted to spend as much time with his kids as possible. It’s not only useful to see your Future-Self as a different person from who you are today, but it is also completely accurate. He then follows by asking whether an individual imagines they’ll change much within the next decade. Whatever results you are producing in your life right now is proof of what you’re actually committed to. The result is that most of us are so busy dealing with short-term issues that we don’t take the time to look beyond surviving in the moment. Before I share my thoughts, I feel compelled to note that I gravitate toward books that push me to work harder and improve my life overall - from motherhood and family life, to health and wellness, business, physical fitness, and financial health - I enjoy reading about overall improvement.

There are so many challenges from our health to our finances to our relationships that it can seem so overwhelming. I'm sorry I use to word reek but I smelled it when I first heard Hardy speak, before knowing anything about him, I googled "is Benjamin Hardy a Mormon" within the first 5 minutes of his talk. Reframe the way you think about the past, not as a victim, but as experiences to learn from that drive you towards a better future. The first few chapters started off okay but the further he argues for his point of view, the shakier it gets. It encourages you to be bold and specific in your vision of your Future Self, as this can influence your life here and now. From this vision, work backwards to develop checkpoints and milestones to bring about this future you. Design your behaviors so that the future you will reap the benefits, rather than pay for the cost of poor choices, with interest. By completing your purchase, you agree to Audible's Conditions of Use and authorise Audible to charge your designated card or any other card on file. Hardy's insights have prompted me to set intentional (and realistic) goals for 2024 and work towards creating a life that I will genuinely look back on and feel good about. The book emphasizes that articulating your Future Self can be the driving force that draws you forward to achieve that.
