Can I just add this is not spam, Im not selling anything Im just trying to help out those that need this info so they dont waste their money and time listening to sales assistants that havent got a clue what they are talking about. This is sometimes provided by the tuner inside the radio (check the manual to see if it is, and if so, if you need to turn it on in a menu, or if it’s on all the time), and sometimes just through a separate wire you can take to the ignition live on the radio (usually red in colour in ISO/Quadlock connectors), or the electric antenna output from the stereo. They are ‘active’ so need power to allow the signal amplifier (the black box at the antenna end) to operate. I tightened the aerial nut on with a 2-25Nm torque wrench, 5nm is not very tight and easy to over do it.

I had problems with my DAB signal in my MK2 using a stick on antenna mounted at the top left of the windscreen.Avoid damaging your radio's SMA antenna connector as you will need to use antennas for the base, mobile devices or any style other than the antenna. The previous NC I had to fiddle about adding ferrites to the cabling as I got interference from my dash cam when it fired up.

However, if you want to mount the aerial to the windscreen without the need to drill into the roof of your car, the DriveSmart Kit is the perfect solution. I won’t go into details, but I spent a lot of my working life dealing with in car DAB and although the technology moves on as with everything, the physics do not. Room D, Unit 2004, 20/F, Wing Tuck Commercial Centre, 177-183 Wing Lok Street, Sheung Wan HK, Hong Kong SAR. Most internal window cling aerials are 12v powered and when fitted correctly are the better option as vandals and thieves cannot get their filthy hands on them, as the external roof mounted aerials are only placed on to the vehicle via a magnetised base. A DAB/FM splitter is unlikely to give you the best results in a Transporter, because it uses the signal from the factory FM antenna, that is built into the side mirror.

Below are some photos we took during the testing and installation of our recommended car DAB aerials above. If you’ve recently purchased a premium double din head unit and want a matching branded aerial, Pioneer has the answer. During testing, we analyse the aerial’s build quality, ease of installation and the quality of the DAB reception it provides. This already has its own signal amplifier, but it’s amplifying signals in the FM range and not the DAB range, which it will probably be actively discarding before sending the FM signal down the cable to the radio tuner, where you connect the splitter. Whether you want to mount it to your roof or windscreen, the above aerials are more than ideal and are designed to provide the best possible DAB reception.

An Audiophile will just baulk at DAB period, nothing short of higher bit rates or DAB+ will fix the audio quality. There is no better antenna than one tuned to length, on the outside of the vehicle, in the middle of a metal ‘ground plane’ (normally the roof, but you have a pop top made of composite I assume), with a full 360 degree ‘view’, but inevitably compromises on one or more of these requirements is required in the ‘real world’. There’s an air duct that you can drill into from under the bonnet, and then feed the cables through attached to a thin piece of wire. Reason for this was on my last NC with the dash cam wiring running down the NS screen pillar I was getting a break up of DAB signals as soon as the cam switched on. Big metal rod high up good, tiny wire embedded in self adhesive plastic eaking out a usable signal and boosting it down a wire in a moving target travelling at the national speed limit away from the transmitter on the other side of a hill, inside a metal box full of electrical Inteference, a bit more challenging.

The CAMWAY is another universal roof aerial that easily replaces your OEM aerial to provide both FM and DAB reception. If your vehicle currently has a built-in-the glass or similar FM/AM aerial, installing the 'DAB/FM/AM bundle will probably improve your FM/AM reception as well.If you require further information regarding our DAB aerial recommendations for your car, feel free to get in touch and we will try to provide our assistance where possible. Their DAB antenna kit is one of the most expensive in this article but it’s a universal kit that promises brilliant reception.
