About this deal

Fluid-master makes a toilet seal that includes a flange with a tube, and an 'O' ring that is foam and about 1/2" thick. The toilet in the master bath had never been removed but a few years ago the ceiling in the storage room below started showing signs of water damage.

They have a special rubber seal that fits onto the bottom of the toilet and then a deep seal flange that goes into the drainpipe sealed by a leak-proof o-ring that prevents splash up and the rotting of the floor flange. Some new toilet models have smaller bases than older models, making them more likely to rock somewhat when used. Many professionals stick with wax because they know it’s reliable, and they’re paid to deal with the mess. If the flange is 1/4” above the floor level like it should be then a wax ring is a reliable option although many plumbers do not use this seal as often because there are better options now. I get why someone would when they are dealing with uneven floors, but I probably would only caulk the front half so I could get a visual of any leaks. If you need to remove the toilet, you can reuse the wax-free seal as long as it’s still in good condition.

Had a stubborn toilet seal, not sure why, regardless of what one did with a wax ring, it just kept leaking.Sponge gaskets come in many different thicknesses, so get the thickness that is right for your application.

Wax-free seals are also a safer bet in climates with temperatures that reach higher than 100 degrees. If you have any problems with the registration process or your account login, please contact support. Wax is also a lot cheaper, and it really doesn't take much time to scrape the wax off, but waxless seals have their conveniences. From a service perspective, I've been the lucky guy to financially prosper from horned wax rings or those new fluidmaster waxless adaptors that jar loose during install, and leak. If the homeowner does not want flooring repair done, I find I can get away with using a rubber gasket because it will expand and contract to accomodate the moving pipe.If you have some sort of unusual spacing situation you're dealing with, the red Korky brand ring has multiple layers that can be used to make sure it's right. Yup still good, also caulking around the toilet, not a big fan, too many issues if (when ) it has to be removed again, also the water/mold issues under it. This is a soft treated foam that can do one thing that is not recommended for wax seals; it can stack. A toilet seal, also known as a tank-to-bowl gasket, forms a semi-flexible seal between the flange (the part in the floor) and the toilet. i always thought it was good idea, in case of an overflow the water won't end up in the ceiling below.

I was talking with a guy a the supply house and he said the foam ring is standard issue for commercial toilets that mount to the wall. Wax seals are highly durable and can easily last 20 years or longer as long as the toilet isn’t moved. If the floor bolts loosen from corrosion or being bumped once too often, that also allows the toilet to move.

Once the wax-free seal is in place, just lower the toilet onto the flange, and the ring seals as it compresses. They used a lot of neoprene gaskets because the heat wasn't hooked up yet, and wax rings were frozen too hard to install.
