About this deal

If you are looking for a specific bottle requirement it is recommended that you verify with us before making a purchase. This wine is composed by Graham’s Master Blender, Charles Symington, from wines put aside in the cellar by his great-grandfather, grandfather, father and uncles. Graham’s five vineyards are located in the Douro valley and all have the maximum ‘A’ grade classification. A Golden amber colour, Grahams 40 Year Old Tawny Port has a pale green tinge at the rim, which comes with a great age.

Owned by the Symington’s since 1970, Graham’s is the only remaining British Port company independently owned by a single family. Graham's Master Blender composes this blend from wines put aside in the cellar by his great-grandfather, his grandfather, his father and his uncles. Well aged in oak and assembled by master blender Charles Symington from wines laid down by his father, uncles, grandfather and great-grandfather. This 40 Year Old certainly does no disservice to that reputation and shows an amazing intensity and complexity of flavours over a palate where the sweetness, flavour characteristics, tannins, and acidity are in perfect balance. The palate is a gamut of flavours, ranging from delicate fruit and raisins to burnt toffee and chocolate.

If the person being thus queried does not know the ritual (and so replies in the negative), the querent will remark ""He's an awfully nice fellow, but he never remembers to pass the port"". Graham’s Master Blender composes this blend from wines put to aside in the cellar by his great-grand-father, his grand-father, his father and his uncles.

It is incredibly refined and smooth with an exceptionally long finish, making it a delight just to drink and savour by itself. In some nations, including Canada, after a phase-in period, and the countries of the European Union, only the product from Portugal may be labelled as ""port. Tawny port is aged in wooden barrels, exposing it to gradual oxidation and evaporation, causing its colour to mellow to a golden-brown after roughly ten years ""in wood. These are among the most demanding and challenging styles of Port to produce, requiring great skill and years of experience from the winemaker. In 1820 the two brothers, William and John Graham, started as textile merchants and later ventured into the wine industry. One of the key factors that sets W J Graham's apart from other port wine producers is its commitment to traditional methods of production.

Aged for an average of 40 years in seasoned oak casks, our 40 Year Old Tawny is a testament to time and patience. Time-honoured skills, craftsmanship and dedication are handed down from generation to generation in the form of three unique arts – the art of blending, the art of cooperage and the art of ageing – to produce our extraordinary selection of Tawny Ports. Red port can be made from many types of grapes (castas), but the main ones are Tinta Barroca, Tinta Cão, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Touriga Francesa, and Touriga Nacional.

There may be extra charges for some postcodes including but not limited to Northern Ireland, Scottish Highlands, and British overseas territories. Not every year is declared a vintage in the Douro, only those when conditions are favourable to particularly flavourful crops of grapes.
