About this deal

As this was the first book in the Jack Logan series I’ve read, some of the character developments/references were lost on me, but it didn’t necessarily detract from the reading experience. JD Kirk lives in the Highlands of Scotland with his wife, two children, and a number of sturdy umbrellas. When the body of a teenaged boy is discovered in a shallow pit on the grounds of a disused factory in Clerkenwell, the local magistrate sees it as just one more death of a worthless street-child, taking no account of the fact that the body bears the marks of whips, knives and ligatures – which indicate the boy had also been horribly tortured. Can't wait for thr next adventure and will - again - set a reminder in my calender as soon as the next novel is available. One such establishment is owned by dwarf twin sisters, who cater for everyone – almost – they do draw the line and will blackball a client.

Wow, this is an extremely tense and riveting mystery, maybe more so than in the last few installments. The story starts with an obnoxious bride and she is brought back towards the end - her story line makes no sense (as a start to the book it's fine) she is obnoxious and her part at the end just peters out Why would she want her ex involved in her life at all? This book was definitely not one of my favourites from this series, as I also feel like some areas of this series are becoming repetitive.

I found it interesting watching him grow up, come to terms with who he is, his place in the world, and his importance to others. But the author has never shied away from depicting the seedier and darker aspects of regency London and she's never turned away from highlighting the unfairness of the chasm that existed between the privilege of wealth and the hopelessness of poverty.First off, I've never been a massive fan of Hoon, even within his own series, though I was pleased that his character development from that series had carried over. Always thought provoking, always managing to capture the historical atmosphere, yet sending a stinging rebuke to the present-day society in the process, and always, always, deeply compelling and absorbing! When it turns out that Orla's recently had a baby the suspicion immediately falls on her boyfriend Ronnie Donlon Jr but since he was down in England at the time of Orla's disappearance.
