About this deal

Follow the story of the Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry, an elite British tank regiment whose men fought their way across North-West Europe in the final stages of the Second World War. Eliminate negativity and change your life with best-selling author, happiness expert and life co

Its of course a rollercoaster story, a story that will probably remain with you for a while as you reflect on the sacrifices these men made and the hardships they entailed. Brothers in arms revolves around the journey of the Sherwood Rangers tank regiment from their landing in Normandy to their final advance towards the heart of Germany. He seemingly incorporates technical information about tanks and anti-tank weapons so that we get a feel for how men interacted with the technology of war. What helped sustain them was the astonishing collective spirit, camaraderie and bravery they demonstrated from that first day on the Normandy beaches to the very end in northern Germany. It also shows the problems that they encountered when they had to support infantry on the chaotic battlefield.

The interplay of personal stories with the broader strategic picture makes this book especially illuminating .

Lancaster bombers could drop immense amounts of ordnance with increasing accuracy as the war progressed, yet the men flying in these tin cans were no better protected by the end of the war than they were when the Lancaster was first delivered to front-line squadrons in early 1942. The units location on Gold Beach, and of its inland fighting actions in maps and pictures are at the beginning of the book. despite the sometimes monotone writing, I'm glad I finally got around to reading a book by Holland and found his latest book to be a well-developed look at life in a tank Regiment during what was such a crucially time in world history.

Following the Sherwood Rangers' brutal journey over the dramatic eleven months between D-Day and V-E Day, Holland presents a vivid and original perspective on the endgame of WWII in Europe. He has presented - and written - a large number of television programmes and series for the BBC, Channel 4, National Geographic, and the History and Discovery channels. In less than a month after D-Day they had already lost some 40 tank commanders, many shot through the head.Corrupt and incompetent law enforcement and judicial systems ensured that the perpetrators were never found or punished until the young J. While the focus is on the men who passed through this unit, and the sheer awfulness of the war of attrition that they were thrown into, Holland does a very good job of imparting hard information on just how all the moving parts worked, making no presumptions that the reader understands how such a basic tank unit does its job. Having interviewed veterans, spoken to their families, read their letters, seen their photographs and walked in their paths, Holland has delved into their world and brought their characters to life.
