In my youth the 1994 Gillian Armstrong film was somewhat of a pretty big presence, but I never saw it.

Portraying Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth March, the film stars Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, with Timothee Chalamet as their neighbour Laurie, Laura Dern as Marmee, and Meryl Streep as Aunt March.

Amy is clearly the same person, but you actually FEEL the growth and can see the natural becoming of who she is in the end. Extras leave a commentary to be desired (Lady Bird’s was great), but overall hit the marks you want it to, without being generic statements and co-worker back pats. Greta Gerwig had this shot on film and it would have made sweet love in its natural 4K transfer to disc. There’s a lot of pressure within the family when Amy has already married and Beth is not long for this world.The Jo/Laurie break-up should be an emotional highpoint, instead of which it’s so badly shot and stitched together that it plays like am-dram. The entire cast are so very good and the screenplay and the direction make this film not to be missed. I love Little Women and Good Wives as books and I've just finished reading them, I watched this movie and it is some of Greta Gerwig's finest work, I loved it and I couldn't recommend anything more than I do this film. The family, with their father (Bob Odenkirk) away at war and mother (Laura Dern) trying to hold everything together in relative poverty, consists of Meg (Emma Watson), the thoughtful one, the pugnacious Amy (Florence Pugh) and the quiet one Beth (Eliza Scanlen). Surround Sound Presentation: It would be nice to have the added spaciness of Atmos, but the film itself isn’t a super demanding one in terms of surround sound.

I can easily see this film as the type of one that an ignorant person my shrug off as thinking they know what this is all about, and completely missing something that would have completely surprised them.
