Ophelia happens to be very drawn to monsters, which is why her Hunter parents shipped her off to boarding school and made her life entirely human. The book had its share of strengths, such as the immersive world and elegant writing, but it also had its weaknesses. The history of the shadow realm was featured enough to be interesting without taking away from the developing relationship between Ophelia and Allerick.

Her character almost felt like a real life romance reader had been transported into a book, so she made the best of it. VERY curious about the next book - the way the end of this one was set up I'm hoping to see a specific couple take center stage in the next one. I only wish the emotional connection was more developed, as they went from lots of horniness to love pretty quickly, but I still found the whole book very entertaining.

I thought the story could have used more of an emotional connection between the two and less monster politics. Luxuria follows Ophelia, a woman trying to get by in the world after being cast out by the hunters, who protect unknowing humans from the shades, monsters who feed on fear. And although these two really needed to work on their communication skills, the author did it in such a way that I was simply amused, waiting for them to get their act together. I would have liked some more description of the Shade world and their customs because I was left with some questions about a lot of things but I did like that the story focused primarily on Allerick and Ophelia's blossoming romance. Their relationship was really intense right from the start, they had a nice chemistry and the tension was there.

Totally oblivious to the fact that the heroine's all sweaty and horny and like, I'm going to ride that man like a carnival pony. Now she just needs to convince her surly monster husband, Allerick, that she's the best fit for him.
