About this deal

However, the story goes downhill from there - a nightmare mix of nasty characters, over- complex plot and bad choices. Those are not direct quotes per se but these same questions are asked of Jude by EVERYONE in the book. The main detective who interviews Jude, Leila reads her well and all of a sudden the secret of many years is exposed which gives reason for Jude's involvement. THE GRIPPING NEW THRILLER FROM BESTSELLING AUTHOR NICCI FRENCH, shortlisted for the 2023 Ned Kelly Awards for Best International Crime Fiction ‘Excels at depicting an ordinary life swept away by horror' Observer ‘Fantastic – a breathless drumbeat of dread and suspense’ Lee Child‘Heart-thumping, head-scratching, nail-biting stuff: The Favour is classic Nicci French.

I think the only way I could have believed Jude’s actions would have been either a) if there was an implicit threat to Jude if she didn’t agree to the “favour”; or b) if Jude was a totally different personality type (i. One of contemporary British fiction’s most famous double-acts, Nicci French is the pseudonym of husband and wife writing team Nicci Gerard and Sean French. Then, one day her first love, Liam, turns up at her work out of the blue saying he wants her to do him a favour, though he’s vague about what this favour is.Their first novel as Nicci French was The Memory Game, since then they have collaborated on many standalone psychological thrillers, including Killing Me Softly, The Red Room, Secret Smile and Catch Me When I Fall. Als dit boek door een andere schrijver was geschreven, was ik er al in het begin van het boek mee gestopt. During that time he also worked at the Sunday Times as deputy literary editor and television critic, and was the film critic for Marie Claire and deputy editor of New Society. I was reading the book as part of a readalong with other bloggers organised by the Tandem Collective but found myself racing ahead as I was overtaken by a desperate need for answers. If you enjoy a pacy thriller with a complex plot, then this may not be the book for you – but if you enjoy a well-crafted character-led story full of secrets, then this definitely is the book for you.

She’s never forgotten her first love, and when he suddenly reappears after all these years asking for a favor, she finds herself not only saying yes but also lying about it to her fiancé. Life moved on for both: Jude qualified as a doctor and is about to marry Nat; Liam tells her he has a young son, Alfie. When the police show up at the station instead of Liam, Jude realizes that she knows nothing about the man he’s become. In summary I liked that the Favour was an unexpectedly easy read and not too taxing on the brain and that I didn’t need to go back and reread anything to piece things together. Then, out of the blue, after an absence of eleven years, her first serious boyfriend, Liam Birch turns up to meet her with a strange request. Nicci still works as a journalist for the Observer, covering high-profile trials including those of Fred and Rose West, and Ian Huntley and Maxine Carr.

Het moment dat Jude op hem staat te wachten in Norfolk en Liam niet op komt dagen vond ik best spannend. Liam hasn't been in Judes life for over eleven years and pops up asking her to do a suspicious favour for him. Some may say this book airs on the lighter side when it comes to the Mystery/Thriller genre and perhaps they’re right it didn’t have me hiding under my bed, but this book has the suspense and at times eerie factor on high. This book was like listening to the lyrics of Hotel California, she just couldn’t stay away and kept getting sucked in. It then jumps forward over a decade where we find Jude is now working as a doctor in a hospital and planning her wedding to her fiance, Nat. When Grace saves his life in a kayaking accident - if it was an accident - and Evan's troubled son arrives to stay, all three are drawn together in a way that forces a reckoning with their personal traumas and draws them back into society. She is young, she is successful and she does not appear to let the events of the past haunt her or hold her back.

However she goes along with it but things don't go as planned and all of a sudden she finds herself part of a police investigation for Liam's death.I am a massive fan of Nicci French books and couldn’t wait to read this but felt that Jude put herself into so many unnecessary stupid situations.
