The idea for the series was conceived in the office of Virgin Records in Vernon Yard, near Portobello Road in Notting Hill, London, by the head of Licensing and Business Affairs at Virgin Records (1979–1990) Stephen Navin, and General Manager (1983–1988) Jon Webster. The Flying Dutchman label have announced an all analogue remastering of the classic "Free Will" cut by Frank Merritt at The Carvery in London. This collection takes the biggest hits of the first ten years from 1983 to 1993, including tracks from Elton John, Bon Jovi, Tina Turner, Wham! Bernie Grundman, who originally mastered the album, recently used the original 1/2” flat master tape to create a new master and then cut the lacquers. Each album contains current and recent hit singles from Chinese artists signed to EMI or Polydor, and from British and Australian pop acts such as Kylie Minogue, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Sugababes or Robbie Williams. The series was released on the EVA label, a joint venture of the Dutch branches of EMI, Sony and Ariola (later: BMG Ariola, a subsidiary of BMG/ Warner Music Group). There were multiple pressings of the album in the first year, but collectors pay attention to the labels to tell which is the rarest of them all. Spinoff series began for other countries the following year, starting with South Africa, and many other countries worldwide soon followed, expanding into Asia in 1995, then the United States in 1998. Between 300 and 1000 copies of this Hank Mobley jazz record (known as Blue Note 1568 by collectors) were released in 1957, and there is one small change that makes them more valuable than other records from the label.
