About this deal

The compilation series was conceived in the office of Virgin Records in London and took its name from a 1920s British advertising poster for Danish bacon featuring a pig saying "Now. July 2019) re-issued on 2-CD - 28 tracks with only Bob Marley and the Wailers and Gary Glitter missing.

The first two volumes were not released on compact disc, and all subsequent releases were either single, double, or triple disc sets. The 4-CD series follows the same general format of the original Special Editions series, with genre, era, and decade collections, but over four compact discs (there is also an abridged vinyl version of Punk and New Wave and Rock), meaning they contain more tracks than the original special editions, but fewer than the Now 100 Hits, which preceded this series. series are only released on one disc), now exploiting the capacity of the CD to include between 40 and 46 tracks over two discs. Some of them have unique track listings and are not related to similarly themed collections already issued on compact disc, however, more recent releases have been 'selections' taken from a larger CD collection (Rock, for example). The 1990s Yearbook series contains a new retro-90s logo design and artwork which also complements its sister decade series.

A series of compilation video games (for the Commodore 64, among other home computers) were released in the mid-1980s by Virgin Games with the name Now Games. The frequency in which they were released also varied from year to year; initially, and most frequently across the series, there would be one Now Dance volume per year, but in 1994 for example, there were four volumes released, and in 1996, there weren't any Now Dance compilations released. The Australian series is a single disc edition and began in 2002, as a replacement for the long-running 100% Hits brand.Previously, the series had been available on vinyl, cassette and MiniDisc, until these formats declined in popularity. The series was released on the EVA label, a joint venture of the Dutch branches of EMI, Sony and Ariola (later: BMG Ariola, a subsidiary of BMG/ Warner Music Group). From the Now 2 through Now 21, the compilation was always done on a rotation system among the three music companies. Some of the earlier volumes were also released on Betamax and for some volumes laserdiscs were also released.

The record labels which make up the UK series have changed over the years but have always been controlled by EMI and Virgin Records, although Virgin Records' logo was last featured on Now! From 2003, and until 2010, there was one special edition released each year, covering a decade (80s, 90s and 00s), or a cross section of big hits celebrating the Now series ( Now Decades, Now Years, Now Dance) - however, from 2011, they became much more frequent, and in 2017, there were fifteen different titles released.Robbie Williams is the artist to be featured the most often in the regular Danish Now series, just as he also is in the UK Now!
