About this deal

It's probably unfair to compare Lee Child, he's had years and many books to get Reacher that way. I truly hope Middleton can discover that element for his character. It's about time that we have a UK version of Reacher, Mallory can be, I want him to be, hopefully we get that as the character grows in the next book. I truly wish Middleton all the good fortune he deserves, to make it happen. Whilst visiting Donno in hospital Mallory meets his mother Susan Nel. Who tells Mallory that her other son Scott who lives in SA is missing. She asks Mallory to find him for her. Red Mist” is the second of the Mallory series and whilst you don't need to have read the first book “Cold Justice”, you are so missing out if you don’t read it as it sets nicely Mallory’s past which goes a long way to explain this complicated character’s present. I do not feel the need to rehash the plot line for this book as the synopsis does it really well, instead here are my favourite highlights: Ant continues to hit the Australian screens with a new series of SAS: Australia which will air once again in 2024, along with exciting new projects on screen… watch this space.

I didn't have a clue who Ant Middleton was, sorry, so I read this purely because I like to challenge myself to different types of reads. Immersed in the world of organised crime, we cross the country in a whirlwind of fast paced events that truly keen you gripped. I really enjoyed Océane as a character too. There is a real feistiness to her, a fighting spirit that doesn't seem to be crushed no matter how much danger she is in. The author gets the balance just right, allowing Mallory to take the lead where is it clear his skills are required, but not allowing Océane to simply become window dressing. She may not have the might or the skills of Mallory, but she is his match intellectually and attitudinally, and she was a fun character to get to know. As her story is very heavily tied to Mallory's quest, this is a key factor, and as a reader, it was as important that I was invested in her fate every bit as much as it was that of Mallory.

The other characters featured are also cleverly drawn and you can tell that Middleton has enjoyed the writing of this book. Mallory comes across a mother in need. A mum who’s son served with Mallory, he flies across the globe to help her other son who is dire need of help.

I’m looking forward to number three when perhaps the cliffhanger at the end of book one may resume?? Finally, it’s not at all necessary to have read Book One as this can very easily be read as a stand-alone. Perhaps it’s redemption, perhaps he’s looking for revenge on the world, but suddenly Mallory has a purpose, and nothing and no one is going to stand in his way. The fight scenes in this book range from the very one-sided moments, where Mallowry proves that even two are no match for one when that one has special forces, training, to those where Mallory is really up against it and it looks as though his fate may well be sealed. It's fair to say that the real driving force behind what happens in this book is pound for pound, and skill for skill, Mallory's equal, and it leads to a very high stakes, high tension thriller of a climax to the whole affair. The hunter becomes the hunted, and believe me that plays both ways. Just who wins out, and how, you will need to read to discover, but it really did satisfy. In this book, the main character is Mallory, his best friend Donno, is in hospital in a Coma, after they were in the special forces together and Mallory made a mistake, meaning Donno ended up this way. This is something Mallory deeply regrets and he visits him in hospital every month. One time when he is visiting, Donno's mum approaches Mallory and she tells him that she is worried about the safety of her son, not Donno, her other son Scott. She hasn't seen him for 17 days and she is concerned and wants Mallory to help. Reluctantly, as he has never done anything like this before, he agrees to try and help her find him.

Cold Justice is Ant Middleton’s debut fiction novel which features a former special forces operator by the name of Mallory who is flooded by his own self guilt. He has anger issues and isn’t a guy to mess with. The action parts are naturally believable. At no point you feel the need to eye roll as if it can be done, Ant Middleton is well placed to know it! Was also pleased to see that Ant did not fall into the male author trap of over-sexualising the female characters (e.g. Graves, Ivy). After a short confrontation with some local crooks, Mallory is asked to trace a woman by the name of Océane, the granddaughter of an ex Foreign Legionnaire. Mallory enjoys such a task and it’s not long before the bodies start mounting up along the way from Paris to Marseille and on to Geneva. The descriptions of the fights seem to be to be done incredibly well. Perhaps this is because Ant Middleton is describing things from his own perspective.

This series redefines the point of reference for action fiction, Ant Middleton is simply phenomenal. Meet Mallory, ex Special Forces soldier, a man with baggage and a temper. He’s seen a lot in his time in the forces and believe you me, it’s traumatic. But now he’s looking for a missing man and the local police aren’t the most helpful… missing adult men don’t seem to be treated as a concern. Beyond the screen, Ant mesmerises audiences across the UK and Australia with his electrifying live shows, 'Mind Over Muscle’ and the upcoming Australian 2024 Tour ‘Fear Bubble: Your Life, Your Time’. Ant’s captivating performance delves into his remarkable life in the military, his unique training techniques, and the invaluable experiences that have equipped him to conquer any obstacle life throws his way. This is not a genre I would normally read, however it was offered on pigeonhole, and the author is from my city, so I couldn't resist it.It is a game of cat and mouse, a chase to make the links between a code Donno and Scott's sadly now dead father hid and the unscrupulous people who want to use that code for their own gain. Who can Mallory trust? Will he find Scott? What will happen to Donno? And was their father's climbing accident really an accident? Mallory - he was the best of the best, a Special Forces leader and a hero. But then he made a fatal decision, gambling with the lives of his men with terrible consequences: two dead, and his young friend Donno left in a coma. Mallory, fresh from the events of the first book, is recuperating in the small village on St Jean-des-Pertes in Normandy but is beginning to feel on edge and missing any action. Therefore when he becomes involved in a chat with Serge, an 84 year old, in the local pub and discovers that his granddaughter, Oceane has been dating an unsavoury boyfriend, all his instincts tell him to get involved.
