Happy birthday my dearest sister.Our four days in hospital with you were quite magical, caught in a bubble just the three of us for the majority of the time with all the help we needed to get you feeding beautifully until we were ready to take you home. Taking you home was an amazing day too, showing you where you would live, sleep and where you would be growing up for the foreseeable future.
On this special day, I want to wish you all the happiness, love, and success in the world. May your dreams come true, and may you always have the strength and courage to pursue your passions. But with each new chapter we’ve opened together, I’ve somehow learned to love you more, and differently. I feel confident that as you continue to grow and learn, our bond will only strengthen as time and challenges try to tear it apart. My love for you, clearly, will expand as your personality and character develop. But that’s hard to believe now, as we’ve had 12 months both short and long. Brand new, squishy baby. A tiny 6lbs 3oz. Blinking in the daylight, rooting for milk to help you grow big and strong. Meeting your bounding older brother, excited to meet you. Sometimes too over excited with you but you’ve learnt to dodge those slightly too enthusiastic kisses. The cuddles that push you over. The bond that grows day by day. The big beaming smiles that you bestow on your brother, lighting up your eyes. Those little dimples. Frantically crawling after him. It brings me joy to see your relationship grow. The way you both giggle together. The way I see glimpses into the future of you ganging up on me. My goodness, my heart explodes with so many emotions. It is hard to believe that a year ago today you blessed my life with so much love and joy.The kind of love and joy that is genuine and pure. You learned to breastfeed like a champ at first latch. I learned everything about milk quality, supply, nutrition, and pumping. On your birthday, I want you to know that you are loved and cherished. You are a special person, and you bring so much light into the world with your kind heart and your beautiful spirit.Our loved one may not be here with us physically, but they will always be in our hearts and our memories. It’s been incredible watching you progress through your milestones, we cheered when you began to be able to hold your head up at around three months, we loved it when you could sit unassisted at eight months, you started crawling at eleven months and now you are standing and walking with assistance. You are always hesitant and want something to be perfect before you try it and then when you do, you’re so proud of yourself and make sure everyone can see! My favourite milestone has been when you first smiled and soon you were laughing… you’ll laugh hysterical… you love to laugh, it’s your favourite thing! Everyone that meets you describes you as chilled out and such a relaxed and happy baby, even if something upset you, you’re soon smiling again! As you embark on another year of your life, I want to remind you of how much you are loved and appreciated. You have a special gift for making people feel happy and loved, and I hope that you never lose that magic.It doesn’t have to be just family, you can ask close family friends to write to them as well. Just don’t go overboard or you won’t have enough room to store all those letters! If ever you find any difficulty in life, never hesitate to talk to me as I would always support and guide you. Though we’ve been looking forward to this day, it is bittersweet – I love seeing you flourish and grow yet I’m so sad to be leaving behind the baby days and approaching toddlerhood. I wish I could bottle the feeling of having you as a baby and sample it again every now and then but as that’s impossible I will just have to drink it in as much as I can, take all the photos and videos and relive this time in memory.
