The juniper adds a little bit of a fresh green edge to the soft peppery woods, and it’s… Light & Airy The Beat is described as a sparkling floral woody fragrance; the notes feature bergamot, mandarin, Ceylon tea, cardamom, pink pepper, bluebell, iris, white musk, vetiver and cedarwood. It starts very bright, with tart fruit and juicy citrus. There is lots of pink pepper (can anybody remember what perfumes smelled like before pink pepper became obligatory?) and a teensy little pinch of cardamom. The heart is sheer bluebell-ish florals, still very bright; the base is cool and pale and summery, and smoothed over with a smidgen of iris. The ad copy calls The Beat "carnal, slightly wild", but that is the usual nonsense — there is nothing even vaguely carnal about it. It smells young and cheerful and clean, and is a pretty good match with the mood of the print ad. I spent some time listening to the music that Burberry reportedly gave to perfumers Dominique Ropion, Olivier Polge and Beatrice Piquet to get them in the right mindset for The Beat (Kasabian, Dirty Pretty Things, Razorlight, the Arctic Monkeys and The Fratellis). It is par for the course, I suppose, that the music is far edgier than the juice they came up with? Presumably they're hoping to reach a wider audience than you'd get with a fragrance that evoked Dirty Pretty Things' Gin and Milk, and I shouldn't think anybody was going to go looking for edgy from Burberry anyway.

To create this scent, Burberry commissioned none other than Dominique Ropion, widely considered to be the industry’s best perfumer. The Beat is remarkably versatile, part of Burberry’s revamp of their brand to reach a younger, hipper demographic while still appealing to their more classic and refined crowd. All of these vibrant tones are balanced by base notes of white musk and cedar, which provide a more subtle and calm undertone. And as soon as the citrus dissipates, freshly-cut cedarwood makes itself known — joined with some juniper and a sprinkling of pepper.

This push towards modernity is perfectly expressed by The Beat, which is marketed towards a modern, yet sophisticated woman of any age. Instead, they've gone for likeable, and they've hit that right on the nail. The Eau de Parfum is youthful without loading on the strawberry candy (it doesn't smell like it's aimed at 'tweens), and while I wouldn't call it massively interesting, it's nicely done and a good fit with the Burberry aesthetic. I don't love it, but it didn't kill me to try it and I wouldn't mind smelling it all over town, in fact, I'd much rather smell The Beat all over town than any number of things. I found the Elixir Parfum considerably more tempting, in fact, it might be the first Burberry fragrance I've ever wanted to own. If you've been looking for a mainstream iris and found Prada's Infusion d'Iris too sheer and Bvlgari's Omnia Amethyste too pretty-charming, you might want to try The Beat Elixir.

The scent was so sweet, with a touch of spice, woods and citrus. I now know that I hadn't been mistaken. Now, I’ll be straight with you; lasting performance was a bit iffy — it was all over the place. In our tests, depending on the wearer and temperature, it lasted anywhere from 4–8 hours. So your mileage may vary. This is super versatile: all ages, all seasons, any occasion. That said… it’s more suited for the spring and summer. When it starts to settle… the star of the show, the leather, makes an appearance. And is eventually joined with some woods and vanilla to smooth everything over. Nice. Then, after about 10 minutes… the lemon is joined with a fresh grapefruit and fruity pineapple accord. The result?

Perfect for casual use, family events, dinner with friends. If you go with one spray it could also make a nice office scent. Elegant, Warm & Comforting Burberry Touch is an EDT and is not a projection monster. It’s soft and refined… and doesn’t shout out for attention. Confusing right? This is more suited for the under 40 crowd and best worn in the cooler weather: spring, fall and winter. Burberry Brit Rhythm Intense smells nothing like the original Burberry Brit (which is a spicy powdery rose scent). As with the original Mr Burberry releases, this was also composed by world renowned master perfumer Francis Kurdjian.

By the way, it makes for an absolute killer office scent, as it has a professional vibe to it. Modern & Minimalistic This option combines the woody notes of barks, mosses and warm resins with the greener impression of aromatic spices for a truly hypnotic effect. This fragrance's top is dominated by a single note of citrus fruits. Next middle notes of violet leaves and pepper move in. As these waft away, they uncover the base of vetiver. (Vetiver, sometimes called khus, is a grass similar to lemongrass and native to India.) Burberry Fragrances: Pricing And suitable for all seasons (just adjust your sprays)… But where it truly shines is in the summer.

This complex and layered scent starts with notes of pink pepper, mandarin orange, bergamot, and cardamom at the forefront, with added hints of tea, iris, and bellflower. So many reviewers are saying that this fragrance is too harsh and too peppery, I find this fragrance more spicy than peppery. Perhaps it is just the way my nose perceives this fragrance. I also get a lot of violet and sweet, juicy fruits. This is not a super-masculine cologne; it walks the line of unisex. That said, the woods and pepper keep it on the masculine side. Let me tell you how it smells… Semi-Sweet, Clean Freshness However, after about 30 minutes, you can detect some of the scent DNA of the original, but this fragrance then takes a different direction.
