Eason and Bree are fantastic characters who are just incredible together. They go through so much, and I loved watching them face it all honestly and realistically as they work their way through it. Their children form a huge part of the story, and I loved the way that they came together as a family unit, and the way that was explored throughout the story. There are some really special moments in this book that had me tearing up or laughing out loud at the realness of it, and I thought it was all so beautifully written. Fans of Aly’s will be thrilled to see some cameos, which were such a special treat, and there’s an epilogue which finishes everything off perfectly. I finished this book with a full heart and a massive smile on my face, and it’s a definite fave for 2021. Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Eason lashes out, both are thwarted into feelings of anger following months of grief and sadness. Both Jessica and Rob were NOT who thought they were. ( Well I mean, I expected this from Jessica but I digress ) and Eason now faces the possibility that Luna is not his biological child, but rather Jessica and Rob’s love child. FROM THE EMBERS is a story of family, friendships, relationships and love; a story of secrets, lies, betrayal and revenge. The premise is heart breaking, tragic, raw and haunting; the romance captivating and tender; the characters are broken, spirited and wounded. Aly Martinez writes a richly dramatic and impassioned tale of betrayal and second chances. All I will say is that this book will capture your full attention and have your emotions all over the place. It will have you sniffling, laughing, crying, ahhing and at times gasping. There’s no sign that Bree is encouraging her friend Jessica to leave Eason, only that it’s abundantly clear that she’s not a fan of Eason. Bree’s husband Rob is Eason’s best friend from before college and is very close to Eason, giving him advice and encouragement in his music career. We learn that Bree owns a business that she lets Rob run while she stays at home with her two children.

I genuinely had to FORCE myself to keep continuing this book. I lost almost all interest 50% into it, and pretty much skimmed the rest. Bree is a bit of a spitfire who likes things to be done a certain way, she has rules and expectations. Eason loves to flout the rules and get under her skin, he brings the fun into the house, pushing as many boundaries as he can get away with. And over the next year and oh so slowly they begin to develop feelings for each other. It’s a slow burn that takes seed, initially out of grief and friendship but developing into so much more. This was my first “Aly Martínez” book and I loved it! The story was unexpected, original and amazing. The blurb gives us a glimpse but it does not prepare us for all the amazing and surprising things that happen in the story. Eason es de los nuevos book boyfriends.
