About this deal

I decided to get a GK64 because I liked the idea of being able to try key switches without any soldering. I just got it today with some Gateron Reds and it feels very nice. The only issue is the software. Copies the lighting files created using the gui to the Data/lighting/ folder so that the map command can use them. Additional commmands

The following commands can be used as command line args to just execute a specific command /gui, /map, /unmap, /dumpkeys. For example: GK6X.exe /map Here you have two options: static RGB color or LE files; later stands for lightning scripts made from LE files tab in the software. There is no "apply failed" message like there is on the official software, so map / umap can fail silently. Resets the keyboard to the default config. The dedicated reset keyboard key combo will be more effective; refer to your manual. gui When it comes time to remove a switch for replacement you’ll need the metal switch removal tool included with the GK64, so keep it stored in a safe place where it won’t be lost. If you’ve ever used a plastic ring keycap puller you should have no problem removing switches with this tool. It’s the same basic concept.

These budget mechanical keyboards have an awesome build quality with a great typing experience at an affordable price. Moreover, these are hot swappable keyboards which allows its users to swap between any key switch of their choice. What is difference between GK & SK keyboard ? Maps the keyboard based on the config in UserData/YOUR_MODEL_ID.txt. See Sample.txt for examples of setting keys, macros, and lighting. You can reprogram the base layer, layers 1-3, and layers 1-3 whilst the fn is held down. You can't move the fn key, but TempSwitchLayer1/2/3 can act similar to a secondary fn key. The base layer fn key set can't be mapped. unmap You’re set! Now holding Caps brings you to the Layer 2 and you have all your bindings ready to use. Your default keyboard layer is not FN + Q, but Fn + W. All settings are stored on the keyboard and driver independent. Regarding the keycaps compatibility, both these keyboards are compatible with MX cross stem style keycaps. Where can I buy these keyboards?Compiling may take several attempts depending on the version of mono. Try xbuild GK6X.sln, or msbuild GK6X.sln, or xbuild /p:TargetFrameworkVersion=v4.5 /p:TargetFrameworkProfile="", or ask for help in #4. The physical dimensions of the GK64 measure in at approximately 11.5 inches by 4.125 inches. As expected from a full aluminum keyboard it weighs a hefty 910g (just barely over 2 pounds). To put that number in perspective the GK64 is a little heavier than the Durgod TKL keyboard I previously reviewed, despite being quiet a bit smaller in length and width. It’s well over 300 grams heavier than the Anne Pro, a similarly sized 60% mechanical keyboard. Most people refer to these keyboards as only “GK” and tend to drop “optical” or “mechanical” from its name. It started causing a lot of confusion in the community. Therefore, the manufacturer of these keyboards decided to rename the Optical GK to just SK.

The /p command line arg can be used to set a prefixed file name of the config to use. For example GK6X.exe /p test will use test - 655491200.txt as the target config file (where the keyboard model id is 655491200). This is a command-line tool for mapping keys, macros, and lighting for GK6X keyboards (GK64, GK84, GK61, etc). This can be used as an alternative to the official software ( Windows / Mac). I've found a kind of manual for this although it doesn't seem to be for this precise version of keyboard. The manual itself doesn't really seem to list anything that I can't figure out by myself :( If you're running from source you'll need to copy the driver folder from a release build. For updating the GUI files see updating.txt. gui_le Both type of keyboards are hot-swappable, however, the compatibility varies. SK keyboards are only compatible with MX style optical switches, but are not compatible with mechanical switches. On the other hand, GK keyboard are only compatible with MX style mechanical switches, but are not compatible with optical switches.

GK64 HM

Mechanical keyboards are also highly customizable based on key switches, LED lighting, keycap material/colors, legend printing method and much more. This keyboards can be your best partner whether you love gaming, typing or are a casual computer user. Why is GK/SK keyboard popular ? Speaking of the feet, they are fairly large and textured to provide traction on a desk or other flat surface. The feet combined with its heavy weight hold the GK64 in place very well. It doesn’t easily slide around on a smooth surface. Gateron Optical Switches Gateron optical switches can be hotswapped at wish and replaced by other switches. Hot swap keyboard do not recquire you to solder / desolder switches. (Hot Swappable with Optical switches only) Parameter: time to transition through RGB colors in deciseconds. More time = more gradient colors and transitions. To be brutally honest, the software is unrefined and mediocre ( at best). With a little patience it can get the job done, but I did find it extremely difficult to use, cumbersome and mostly undocumented with a poorly designed UI. You basically have to go through trial and error to figure out what half the buttons and options even do.
