About this deal

Without prejudice to the section Liability below, the Service may be temporarily unavailable during maintenance, updates, etc. We shall make reasonable efforts to inform you of any unavailability due to maintenance or updates. Taste: Smooth and light citrus fruit and bitter orange slowly develop while a short lived fruity sweetness wrestles with lemon myrtle and mandarin peel to bring elements of bitterness towards the end. Not bad. It has bit of complexity in the taste, yet it is quite simple in aftertaste. Much fun, sophisticated and light, easy to enjoy. Like a good Woody Allen film. Since it's very floral, I'll call it Blue Jasmine. Glenkinchie 12 year old single malt whisky is kinda new addition to the core range of this Lowland distillery. This is a entry level bottling released in 2007, replacing the 10 year old by Glenkinchie. Lowland has only six distilleries located in the region. Like the name suggests, Glenkinchie lies in a glen of the Kinchie Burn farmland near the village of Pencaitland, East Lothian. Located 15 miles from Edinburgh, making it “The Edinburgh Malt”. Founded in 1837, it was until 1989, they started to get more recognizability when United Distillers started marketing them under the Classic Malts brand (owned by Diageo nowadays). Nose: Starts crispy, green apple juice and hints of cinnamon and nuts. Gets mellow and very floral over time. Water brings lemon notes and meringue to the mix, and the nutty notes get salty.

Finish: Sharp and fast. Mildly spicy – oak tannins, earthly and fruity notes. Water adds bitter notes and makes the tannic oak more dominant. Very fresh aftertaste. In 1914, Glenkinchie joined forces with fellow Lowland distillers Rosebank, StMagdalene, Grange and Clydesdale to form Scottish Malt Distillers. In 1925, after further expansions, SMD merged with DCL to form the most powerful consortium in Scotch whisky. The firm has since evolved into Diageo.

Palate: Clean, fresh cereal-rich arrival, with that digestive note this time mixed with acacia-honey, caramel and an artificial sweetness(saccharin). There is a slight yeast-y note that develops from this, making the arrival simplistic but very comfortable and very pleasant. The developement is made up of green gauge, a BIG peach note that prolongs the medium-long cereal finish, some bitter oak and marmelade creeps in as well as some spiritiness.

Taste

Overall a very pleasant malt that got even better with time and air in the bottle. If you like more one or two-dimensional whisky's where you can loose yourself in their savoury singular specialty or if you just like cereal then, well you probably figured out this is your whisky. B and B-: Good and above average. The best of the mass market whiskeys fit in this category, as do the bulk of the premium brands. A B- is three stars. Named as “Best Lowland Single Malt” at the 2013 World Whiskies Awards, this is a Ex-Bourbon cask matured whisky.
