About this deal

The soundbar also offers SpaceFit Sound room calibration, to better optimize performance based on reflections and obstructions in your room. Owners of Samsung smartphones can even take advantage of Tap Sound, a super convenient way to Bluetooth pair your mobile with the soundbar.

A run through of The Gray Man on Netflix (Dolby Atmos) provides plenty of opportunities for the HW-Q700B to impress, as an example. Intelligibility is consistently good, without dialogue sounding overly sharp. There’s genuine heft to the presentation too. Connectivity is more accommodating than has become the norm. In addition to HDMI eARC/ARC, there’s an HDMI source input that supports 4k HDR10+ pass-through, ideal for hooking up a games console or 4k UHD Blu-ray player. There’s also an optical digital audio input for legacy TV connections. The soundbar is where all the physical inputs and wireless connectivity live – the subwoofer just has a power lead (and not a long one, it’s worth noting) and a button to initiate pairing with the soundbar in the unlikely event that the process doesn’t happen automatically. This soundbar offers a variety of audio presets and sound modes, including Standard, Adaptive Sound, Surround and Game. For non-Atmos or DTS:X mixes, Adaptive proves the most consistently entertaining. Audio upscaling is well handled, particularly when it comes to sporting events. The partnering wireless subwoofer is relatively compact and decor friendly, with a fabric frontage, and port to the rear. that violates any law, statute, ordinance or regulation (including, but not limited to, those governing export control, consumer protection, unfair competition, anti-discrimination or false advertising); The subwoofer is a little more manageable, but bear in mind its power cable is hard-wired, so even though it connects wirelessly to the soundbar, its 1m-long power cable will dictate where in your room it ends up.

The Q700B is designed with larger screens in mind (55-inches upwards). It measures 44 inches / 1111mm wide. We found this two-piece impressively cinematic (straight from the box, and not augmented with any Q-Symphony embellishment). The subwoofer does a fine job filling out the lower mid-range and adding gutty thumps. It doesn’t drop excessively deep, but explosions and gunfire sound reassuringly sharp and dynamic. The HW-Q700B boasts a number of audio presets and sound modes which are worth exploring. These include Standard, Adaptive Sound, Surround and Game. The Adaptive mode is particularly useful, as it makes full use of the speaker array, regardless of the source material. After all, not everything comes mixed for Dolby Atmos or DTS:X. You’ll know that you’re listening to native Dolby Atmos, as the front facing display spells it out for you.Underneath, you’ll find two HDMI ports. One provides the eARC/ARC connection to the TV, the other – with 4K HDR passthrough – offers the opportunity to plug in a local AV source. Hooking a Blu-ray player up directly allows the Q700B to decode any DTS:X-encoded discs you may have. This HDMI input could also serve as a games console or a set-top box. The soundbar's front facing LED display can be read through the audio grille, as long you're facing it head on. (Image credit: Steve May/Techradar) Samsung HW-Q700B review: Design No matter how you get your audio on board, though, it’s delivered to you by a complement of six drivers in the soundbar plus another in the subwoofer. Facing out from the front of the soundbar in a ‘left/right’ arrangement there are four 57mm (fairly) full-range drivers, two at either end – each pair is reinforced by what Majority calls an ‘airport’ but what looks to me very much like a bass reflex port. It’s a different story at the top of the frequency range. The soundbar has no dedicated tweeters, remember, and treble contrives to sound edgy and insubstantial. This is a trait that is only compounded by increases in volume – so not only do top-end sounds seem unnatural, they don’t relate to what’s going on beneath them in the slightest. use of the content you supply does not violate these Terms of Use and will not cause injury to any person or entity.

The Samsung HW-Q800B is a well-appointed and highly capable soundbar that’s sure to please fans looking for a big, cinematic delivery. The soundstage is understandably front-heavy, but there’s plenty of width, height and scale to the presentation. The subwoofer is excellent, although some tweaking may be required to ensure its bass doesn’t over-power the rest of the system. The use of high-quality components inside the well-constructed cabinet ensures there’s a pleasing musicality to the overall delivery, while the dedicated centre channel provides clear and focused delivery of dialogue. The general tuning of the system is natural right out of the box, and the SpaceFit Sound Gen II calibration feature corrects for the more egregious aspects of the room. that is, or may reasonably be considered to be, defamatory, libelous, hateful, racially or religiously biased or offensive, unlawfully threatening or unlawfully harassing to any person or entity; The midrange projects well, and carries enough detail to make dialogue sound characterful – there’s enough space around a speaker’s voice to allow them to communicate fully, even if they’re whispering. There’s good balance and poise to midrange information, a very pleasant kind of naturalness that makes voices both convincing and easy to follow. Unlike a lot of products of this type and at this sort of money, the Majority’s remote control is quite robust and tactile, and it’s of a decent size, too. It lets you examine the four EQ presets, finesse bass and treble response, mute the system and so on.The soundbar supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X object-based surround, plus their respective legacy versions, while for music lovers there's a host of high-res audio formats. There’s also built-in Alexa smarts that not only provides easy access to more music, but a degree of voice control.

audio immersion is good, to a point. The adoption of decent drivers for Atmos height channels warrants an unambiguous thumbs-up. Last year’s Acoustic Beam solution did the job, but on this model those dedicated drivers bring clear benefits when it comes to relating detail and creating presence. Audio upscaling of stereo and 5.1 sources is impressive too. The set also offers SpaceFit Sound room calibration, to better optimise performance for your listening room. But you’ll need a Q70B or higher Samsung TV model to use the feature. Sound QualityBass delivery is effective but not overly deep. The sub hits like a middleweight eager to get home for his tea.
