Gloss paints have been the go-to for windows, doors and skirting boards due to their robust nature and ability to be wiped clean, but are falling in popularity because of the dated finish and tendency to yellow over time. The best way to apply this product is to stir well before use and do not apply in temperatures below 10ºC or externally when rain is imminent. Johnstone’s Aqua satin and gloss will start to yellow and discolour over time, especially in low light conditions. More so than other “water-based” products on the market, but a lot less than anything oil-based. I’ll explain why in the next section. You don't need to worry about yellowing or ageing. This satinwood paint from Leyland is an excellent all-rounder. Suitable for almost all projects, it’s easy to use, long-lasting and durable. While it will need two coats to get the fullest coverage, a little goes a very long way, and as you don’t need to use primer, it’s great for those on a budget. The normal procedure would be one coat of undercoat followed by two topcoats, whether going over previously painted or pre-primed. Three coat systems over previously painted surfaces are the norm for most water-based paints. There are a few products out there which only need two. Each product gives you the application and feel of a solvent-based product, whilst delivering the benefits of a water-based product. Ultimatly you'll be rewarded with a superior finish you can be proud of, every time. As for the roller. I like the Hamilton ‘For the Trade’ mini-roller.
