About this deal

Noise is rated at 21dba. It is not silent, but if it is very quiet. You will not need to adjust the fan on this unit. Add Secure Diagnostic Mode (SDM) to allow NETGEAR Support to establish a secured connection for remote troubleshooting. This is disabled by default. Just like traditional device overview screens, we can see which ports are live and what their link speed has negotiated to. One fun little change is that the upper left link activity lights for each port will blink in real-time in relation to how much port activity is happening. If we dive a bit deeper into the PoE overview we can see the individual port’s power over ethernet consumption and other helpful details.

The released zip file contains the switch firmware and MIB files. Unzip the file to extract the switch image for firmware updating. Overall, this is an acceptable result. There is some overhead on the ports. The numbers are very similar to what we saw from other units in this scenario. Netgear MS510TX Port Performance Chart

Standard Warranty: Limited Lifetime

Then there are the ports. For your basic networking needs, there are 4x 1GbE ports. That may seem normal. Then there are two 2.5GbE ports that one can see as potentially needed for newer APs, a lower-end NAS, or workstation. Next to those, there are two 5GbE ports which also may be used for different lower-end NAS units or workstations. Anyone who has had to manage firmware updates across multiple devices knows how time-consuming it can be. Netgear Insight really shines here, allowing us to painlessly identify the firmware status of all our devices connected through the Insight dashboard and instantly push firmware updates to any out-of-date devices. There is a single 40mm fan, but this is a very quiet unit. Even the tinkerers out there are unlikely to want to replace this one. Netgear MS510TX 40mm Fan

Something else that is nice here is that with the higher-speed ports, one can service 2.5GbE ports today, but as higher-end devices become available one can use the ports that can do 5GbE and 10GbE as well. Final Words It is difficult not to admire such an effort. This switch has so much going on with five different port types. When we looked at the datasheet for this, and the MS510TXPP (PoE) counterpart, there were three scenarios. Only the first application made sense as a possible deployment scenario in a small office setting. Netgear MS510TX Use Case Using The MS510TXPP The default setting for the Smart Control Center (SCC) Management option changes from enabled to disabled.

The switches are being billed as “Layer 2+/ Layer 3 Lite” switches which is common in the edge market. Netgear MS510TXM And MS510TXUP Specs This switch tops out, on the datasheet, at a total of 2.61W per port while offering Even at the maximum power consumption on the datasheet, it is still only 1.56W/ port or 2.99Gbps per Watt under maximum bi-directional load. Netgear is launching two new switches for the 2.5GbE era. The Netgear MS510TXM is the traditional switch while the MS510TXUP is the PoE++ version from the company. Both are 10-port switches with networking connectivity that STH readers are going to be interested in as they mix 1/2.5/5/10GbE onto switch platforms. Netgear MS510TXM and MS510TXUP Switches Fixes the issue when an OUI is added, the last two hexadecimal are changed to E0 instead of the entered value. We tested power consumption on 120V power since that is common at the edge where these will be deployed in North America. In terms of actual power consumption we saw:Pet Habitats and Supplies, Apparel and Leashes, Training and Behavior Aids, Toys, Aquarium Supplies such as Pumps, Filters and Lights 15 Days Returnable

Advanced QoS (Quality of Service) for traffic prioritisation including portbased, 802.1p and L2/L3/L4 DSCPbased For starters, the MS510TXUP provides six 10G uplink ports out of a total of ten available ports. Four of the six 10G ports are RJ45 copper ports while the last two are made available via SFP+ slots. All, except the two SFP+, ports provide up to 60 watts of PoE power via the Ultra60 POE++ standard. This is perfect for providing WiFi 6 access points power without needing to run additional wiring to each access point.

Highlight List of the MS510TXUP’s Features

Paired with Insight, the unified remote management dashboard from Netgear, managing a large deployment of MS510TXUP’s is made a breeze. In the end, complexity can be a killer in these types of environments. The MS510TXUP has a very specific mission and executes it well. This NETGEAR Smart Switch offers powerful Layer 2+/Lite L3 features, great PoE functionality, and enhanced performance and usability. The MS510TXUP is purposely designed for modern applications and supports BYOD which requires companies to have more bandwidth to ensure smooth network connectivity with no congestion. Furthermore, with support for 2.5G or 5G speeds, there is no need to upgrade your cabling from CAT5e, allowing for savings in installation costs.
