About this deal

La lettura all'inizio può risultare un po' lenta, anche perché sono un po' le informazioni con cui bisogna familiarizzare, ma è facile restare incantati da questo mondo e dalla protagonista Elspeth.

Yeah am let down by it and do believe it is overhyped. But instead of forcing myself, I decided to stop and move on. It had the potential to put me in a reading slump. IMO, if you like Caraval, you'll like this book. Worlds with forbidden magic aren’t anything new, and if you’re an author building such a world, it needs to be done with care and originality; otherwise, you risk getting flagged as tropey. However, I found One Dark Window gripping and innovative, where how using magic always comes with consequences, making the stakes much more fascinating and dangerous. I think, personally, it’s best to go into this book with not much knowledge, so I won’t describe the system of magic or much else. Go into it in the dark, read and enjoy. And of course, I have to mention The Nightmare. He's just the best. So funny, sarcastic, grumpy, and caring (in his very weird way). He will be very welcome in my head lmao A creepy mist-plagued village and woods, a 500-year-old mercurial mind monster who talks in rhymes, a book within a book, and beautiful poetic writing without being too flowery. Rachel Gillig’s darkish fantasy, and slightly gothic fairytale, was an atmospheric read with elements of slow-burn romance and a small touch of spice. I was completely enthralled and could not put down One Dark Window. Are you still pretending?” I said, reveling in his gaze. Ravyn gave a surprised laugh and, in front of everyone, leaned in and kissed me.The enchantment of the book lies not only in its magical elements but also in the subtle romantic twist that adds an extra layer to the narrative. While romance isn’t the central focus, its presence is tastefully integrated without overwhelming the creative writing. A dash more spice could have heightened the experience, but it doesn’t detract from the overall charm of the story.

A creepy mist-plagued village and woods, a 500-year-old mercurial mind monster who talks in rhymes, a book within a book, and beautiful poetic writing without being too flowery. Rachel Gillig’s darkish fantasy, and slightly gothic fairytale, was an atmospheric read with elements of slow-burn romance and a small touch of spice. All the side characters were delightful, but Ravyn's cousin, Prince Elm, definitely won my heart a lot more than the others. 💜 The familiar ease in which he interacted with Elspeth was so refreshingly entertaining - he never hesitated to challenge her - she never wavered in speaking her mind against him - it's such a comfortable kinship that is forging between them, and the way the cliffhanger left us dangling the way it did - I am very much looking forward to how much more of a part he's going to play in the future. 💮 For fans of Uprooted and For the Wolf comes a dark, lushly gothic fantasy about a maiden who must unleash the monster within to save her kingdom--but the monster in her head isn't the only threat lurking. Together they must gather twelve Providence Cards—the keys to the cure. But as the stakes heighten and their undeniable attraction intensifies, Elspeth is forced to face her darkest secret yet: the Nightmare is slowly taking over her mind. And she might not be able to stop him. One Dark Window characters. I really like the direction the story is heading, and I'm glad that this book was able to keep my attention. And that cliffhanger though?? So yeah, not bad for a debut! Will definitely be reading book 2 when it's released.Marred by a haunted mist, Blunder is a village where magic is outlawed and comes as an infection in the night, granting magical abilities to people who survive it. FMC Elspeth Spindle survived the fever, and her family has treasonously harboured her, keeping her “infection” secret to protect her from the certain death that awaits anyone “tainted”, with the belief she has no resulting magical symptoms.

For 11 years, Elspeth Spindle kept her own dangerous secrets including the ancient spirit—the Nightmare—who kept too was her secret keeper and protector. In fact, I’ve noticed this was the case in One Dark Window. In the second part of the Arc structure ( Part II: The Mist ) the pace becomes a little slow, therefore taking a toll on the romance arc between the main characters. I think, personally, it’s best to go into this book with not much knowledge and embrace the darkness. When Elspeth meets a mysterious highwayman on the forest road, her life takes a drastic turn. Thrust into a world of shadow and deception, she joins a dangerous quest to cure Blunder from the dark magic infecting it. Except the highwayman just so happens to be the King’s own nephew, Captain of the most dangerous men in Blunder…and guilty of high treason. This book is so good! I’ve read almost 200 books this year alone and this is def in the top 2 out of all of them. If you have been wanting to read this do yourself a favor and do it! The second one is out and I’m so excited. I’ll be sad to leave this world though. To sum it all up, this first book is pretty much a set-up for a series, shows enough but hides enough to keep interest, and I'm going to read the next because I want my questions answered. The characters were boring and I didn't like anyone. I would have liked to know more about Nightmare but I stopped caring about it. Have you ever played Final Fantasy VIII? Do you remember Triple Triad, its extremely frustrating playing card minigame? One Dark Window is the Triple Triad experience. A bunch of cool cards, but vague rules, aggravating inconsistency, and an unnecessary experience (for me, at least).

Elspeth meets a Highwayman and his companions on her way with her family to join the King's Equinox ball at the castle. Secrets and dangerous schemes begin to unravel, and Elspeth is at risk of being exposed as the child who had survived the fever and was kept hidden until adulthood, and that equals to treason to the King.Fever carriers are born with unique magical gifts, and to the king there is no true magic beyond card magic, everything else is an abomination. I’m just the wind in the trees, the shadow, and the fright. The echo in the leaves… the nightmare in the night.”
