About this deal

Most people will love the smoothness and fluidity of its 90Hz refresh rate, and the implementation of the always-on display is far better here than it is on the more expensive Apple iPhone 14 Pro.

These aren't major issues but, for us, the biggest downside is just how much here is comparable to the existing Pixel 6. That one is far better value when you compare both side-by-side. We love the Pixel 7 but if you're on a budget at all, the 6 is the way to go. The only notable advantage for the Pixel 7 Pro in the performance department is that it comes with 12GB of RAM, rather than the Pixel 7’s 8GB, which we’d say is unlikely to make noticeable difference in day to day use. The 7 Pro's screen is an expansive 6.7 inches, so roughly the same size as the iPhone 14 Plus and Samsung's S23 Ultra. It's crisp and smooth to use – fantastic for scrolling social media, watching YouTube and playing games – though we struggle to wield it with one hand. As mentioned above, the cinematic video is pretty ropey and you'll probably want to avoid it. And, like on the previous version, there's no slot for a memory card so you'll want to decide whether you need the 128GB or 256GB variant you need before you hit "add to basket". Both phones have a clear visual identity with an edge-to-edge "camera bar" on the rear. On the new model, this has changed texture, now in matte aluminium. It looks sleek and classy, although we're aware this design has its detractors and, yes, it won't sit flat on the desk without a case.Fans of smaller handsets may not love the larger physical size of the Pixel 7 Pro, which can be tough to use comfortably without stretching your fingers across the screen. If so we recommend the recently-released Samsung S23 or the iPhone 13 mini. The display has rounded edges that work to keep the bezels much smaller than the 7a, but we warn you: this is one slippy phone. You'll need a case or it will try to escape your grasp at every opportunity – even if it's just sitting on a flat surface like your desk. We're loving the Mous Limitless 5.0. Google Pixel 7 Pro display Software improvements include an expanded photo unblur mode, including the ability to digitally improve blurry faces in pictures taken on your old phone in the Google Photos app. Night Sight shooting is also two times faster than before – this makes a huge difference when shooting in low light, taking just a second to capture an image.

There’s nothing as fancy as the iPhone 14’s new Dynamic Island, but there’s no big notch, either. We're frequently impressed with how effective the camera system is for day-to-day use, in any type of lighting. Google isn't reinventing the wheel with the Pixel 7. It's a polished and refined upgrade to 2021's Pixel 6. The good news is that we already highly recommend that variant and its cheaper sibling, the Pixel 6a, and that remains the case when it comes to the newest model, and its new affordable companion, the Pixel 7a. Build materials and drop protection: Whether the case is made out of silicone, aluminum, polycarbonate or rubber, look for a good drop rating to keep your Pixel 7 Pro protected. Some phone cases are only meant to withstand drops of a few feet high, while more hardcore competitors have a MIL-STD-810G-tested rating of 10 feet or more. Although Google fans will see a significant increase in power, the new phones will be smaller in size, hence smaller in battery capacity. And while we believe Google will find a solution to battery autonomy, we can’t help but feel that some external power-up will be needed. Bearing that in mind, a good battery case will be recommended – both to protect this great phone and juice it up a bit when needed. If you're looking into buying a Pixel smartphone, it's safe to say you probably care a lot about how good it is for photography. We're always snapping away on our phones too, and the good news is that this is yet another brilliant Google camera driven by software.

These cases from Mous have been certified as specially made for Google, and offer protection for your smartphone that is truly unrivaled. We recently reported on howMous cases are so protective, that the brand decided to prove the strength of its cases by throwing a Google Pixel 7 off the roof at Google HQ, and the device emerged totally unharmed, protected with a Mous case, and without a scratch on it. While the stats show that Google's handsets still make up only a small portion of all the smartphones out there in the wild, that number is growing faster than other brands and we can report that we've spotted an increasing amount of Pixel devices in the hands of our fellow commuters (it helps that the camera bar makes them distinctive!). The case is specifically made for the Pixel 7 model therefore it will fit the phone perfectly. All edges will be protected, in fact, there won’t be a place that will be unprotected. Additionally, all the buttons will be under protection while retaining their usual functionality and flexibility. The G2 processor increases efficiency and performance – but also helps to power the suite of futuristic editing modes. The Photo Unblur mode is a new one. It cleans up messy images if your subject was caught moving – and it definitely sharpens a blurry selfie, but doesn't completely salvage the image.

We’re hoping that Google has been able to implement efficiency optimizations thanks to that more efficient Tensor G2 chip. For its part, Google is claiming about 24 hours of battery life, and a full 72 hours of battery life if you use the company’s extreme battery saver mode across both models. Battery life on the Google Pixel 7 is improved due to the addition of Google's upgraded Tensor G2 chip. On paper, stats boffins may look at the processor and see a relatively minor upgrade, but it has benefits for machine learning and efficiency. If you love having lots of files, movies, music or podcasts on your phone, it's important to note that the Pixel 7 Pro doesn't come with expandable storage. You are limited to 128GB, 256GB or 512GB unless you pay for extra cloud space, but honestly, we've had no issues with space. Most of our documents are handled in the cloud, and entertainment is enjoyed via streaming. This is a tiny bit worrying. After all, last year’s Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro both offered only average battery life at best.
