About this deal

The included Phono RCA cable, Connect it E, is a high-quality semi-balanced interconnect cable with gold-plated RCA connectors that guarantees the perfect connection. Also the special decoupling feet isolate the turntable from the surface it is place on to deliver the best sound possible. Features: A synchronous AC design with a built-in signal generator, this motor also includes brand new aluminium pulley. The Pro-Ject Essential III is a great turntable. It is as the name suggests, an essential piece of gear. Using my experience with Fluance’s RT85 as a baseline, I got to grips with playing vinyl and resisting the urge to hover and touch the turntable while listening. I’ll admit that I still find manual speed changes cumbersome. Whenever I tried one, I almost always bunked it up and had the belt slip off altogether. That’s on me as I don’t hear the rest of the world complaining about it. It is what is. On the bright side, the premium looks are complemented by great sound.

It doesn't matter whether you listen to REM's Automatic for the People or The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Dukas, this little Pro-ject delivers the sound with infectious enthusiasm. If you have one of these turntables with a fixed mains lead, you will need a 230V Motor. If you have one of these turntables with a detachable power supply, you will need this 16V Motor. This changeover in power-supply/motor only relates to the age of the turntable - not the performance. All told, the Essential III proved a resounding success. The upgrades that Project had fitted took performance up a clear level from the Essential II, with a noticeable widening of the soundstage, and a fuller, more lifelike sound than its predecessor. As far as generational shifts go, the Essential III has been a hugely worthwhile one, offering a noticeable leap in sound quality whilst retaining the ‘house sound’ of all Project turntables. An easy recommend – call your local store to arrange a demo! The tempered glass platter is not only a good solution to a resonance-free heavy platter," Heinz Lichtenegger says. "But it's also is more visually attractive than, for instance, the minimalistic designed MDF platter used on the Primary Line." Just like the standard version, the Pro-Ject Essential 3 Digital has all the elements of a proper hi-fi turntable - just at a lower price. The low vibration DC motor gives stable speed for accurate pitch and timing. The main bearing is made from stainless steel and runs within a bronze bushing with a Teflon coating. This type of build integrity is usually reserved for much more expensive designs and gives the Essential 3 Digital a remarkable precision of sound for its price. To extend the life of your drive belt, try to avoid touching it with your hands as much as possible. Once mounted, use the Speed Key (provided with your Pro-Ject turntable) to change the rung of the pulley. Verdict: A well built turntable system that, despite a spotlight forming directly over the midrange, offers focus and precision and a sense of detail. The built-in phono stage within this turntable has been designed to transmit a Bluetooth signal to any compatible device that is within a 10m range, allowing for connection to Bluetooth headphones, Bluetooth-enabled Digital-to-Analogue Convertors, or Bluetooth-enabled sound systems. Listening to the sound of a proven turntable, it’s not hard to conclude that the same product of a team that has the experience, knowledge, and technology to offer the right thing in every segment of the offering. For the asking price, the Essential III is an outstanding turntable and one has to wonder if it makes sense to invest further. The answer, of course, depends on the customer’s ambition, the number of vinyl and the vision of investing in music. It would be necessary to invest in a better acrylic plate, clamp and quality mat and only then see where the construction limits are, but then this review would be much longer and more detailed. However, it can also be said that Essential III is a great budget turntable that can satisfy the vast majority of users and the rewards it wins carry for a reason.

To find out what this turntable is made of in the sonic stakes, we grabbed a copy of Dire Straits' shedload-selling 1985 album Brothers In Arms. OK, it's probably not a record we'd play in the car with the windows rolled down these days, but there's no denying its musical virtuosity and that made it perfect for this particular job.

PRO-JECT ESSENTIAL III

The Signature 10 (above) and the Signature 12 are high-end turntables that compromise nothing. They each have a mass-loaded sub-chassis, a floating turntable design and a unique S-shaped tonearm.
