About this deal

If you’ve ever heard a person talk in their sleep, it sounds like they are mumbling. Yup, that’s kinda what your sleeping bunny does too. You might think that your bun doesn't have to hide or run away from any chasing animals because he's safe inside your home, but the truth is that he's got the same behavior patterns as his wild ancestors and his natural instincts are still there. Domestic rabbits still have - at least to a certain extent - that same evolutionary instincts as their brothers living into the wild. Avoiding Danger

Rabbits sleep both in the day and at night, so they sleep both in the dark and in the light. They use the cues from the light to tell them when to sleep – when it is darkest and when it is lightest. What positions do rabbits sleep in? When your rabbit sleeps in the flopped position, they usually fall into a deeper sleep. Their eyes are often closed in the flopped sleeping position, too. Do Rabbits Sleep With Their Eyes Open or Closed? They continue their activity until late in the evening, even after you've gone to sleep and will settle for a few hours of nap time during the middle of the night before starting all over when the - early - morning comes. Vocalizations: While some rabbits may make soft noises while they sleep, excessive vocalizations or unusual sounds could signal distress or pain. Again, this is a natural instinct. Sure, they know that you are their owner (hopefully), but you do not want to scare them.Hidey-House, Tunnel, or Igloo: A hidey-house, tunnel or igloo are like little dens where your rabbit can nap or relax without being disturbed. Rabbits sleep for 8-12 hours a day in a loaf, sprawled out, or flopped position. They sleep in short bursts (naps) between midday and late afternoon, and then again from late night to early morning since they are crepuscular. Rabbits prefer to sleep in a dark, safe space with lots of bedding. This means that they are most active at dawn and dusk, and get their sleep during the middle of the day, as well as during the night. Similarly, rabbits also have sleeping positions, and possibly even a single sleeping position they favor.

It’s best to let sleeping rabbits lie. Waking them up suddenly can cause stress and anxiety. Can a rabbit’s sleep be disturbed by noise or light? Sleeping with eyes open is easy for a rabbit thanks to a thin, transparent membrane above their eyelid, which helps keep the eye moist. A rabbit that is asleep while its eyes are open will be more sensitive to light. If their eyes detect a change in light (and a big one), then the rabbit will likely wake up. Because of that, rabbits evolved with defense mechanisms, like heightened hearing and speed. But speed can’t help a sleeping rabbit. Sure, that super hearing comes in handy, but beyond that, rabbits have evolved to sleep with their eyes open. As a protective measure, rabbits learned to sleep with their eyes open. In the wild, rabbits enjoy sleeping with their eyes open for these reasons! But also, rabbits tend to take a long sleep if feel safe and secure. This long sleep often begins in the early evening, when light is fading, and can last until dawn.

Rabbits may sleep with their eyes open, but their noses stop wiggling and their bodies relax when asleep. Can changes in my rabbit’s sleep pattern indicate a health problem? Rabbits are among a small population of animals that sleep with their eyes open. That is a defense mechanism that rabbits have developed over eons of being hunted. Now, as a rabbit owner, I know you don’t want to hear this, but all over the world, rabbits are number one on the menu for a long list of predators. They always have been.We can’t be sure what is going on in their heads. But it looks like they do dream. About ten percent of their time asleep is spent in a specific form of sleep, in which the body’s patterns look similar to wakefulness patterns, but the brain is asleep. Eyes can move fast (hence it is sometimes called Rapid Eye Movement sleep, or REM sleep for short). And the body can twitch or jerk around a little.

Lastly, fruits and other veggies (like carrots and cherries without stems and seeds) should be used as treats in moderation, and make up 10% of daily food intake, together with other veg. They’ll likely sleep through most of the night between 11 pm -1 am before beginning their cycle all over again in the morning. Do Rabbits Sleep During the Day or Night Rabbits can sleep in a whole variety of positions. Some flop on their sides, and others splay themselves out. This is Fish’s favourite position. Moreso, rabbits are social animals and may feel more secure sleeping close to another rabbit. Or even their human companion. If you have more than one rabbit, make sure that they have enough space to snuggle together. Some people have reported seeing their cute bunny sleeping with their eyes half open! When in fact it’s just that they have a third eyelid – a nictating membrane – that they can close. It appears to us as though their eyes are half open when they are, in fact, closed. When Do Rabbits Sleep? How Long Do Rabbits Sleep? So if your rabbit always sleeps with its eyes closed, then you’re doing a great job of making them feel at home as a pet owner! 2. Sleeping in Funny Positions Tire your rabbit out. Allow your rabbit several hours of exercise before bed. If it tires itself out in the evening, then it’ll be more likely to relax at night. However, sudden snoring could be a sign of something harmful, like a respiratory issue or something lodged in the nasal passage. Either way, it’s best to seek veterinary advice if you’re worried about your rabbit’s snoring. Do Rabbits Dream?
