About this deal

The staging capabilities are good and my only critique would be a slight loss of sharpness and definition around elements that gets a small smear treatment due to the overall smoothness in the overall presentation. It’s a choice between Shreek and sharp or smooth and relaxing. I prefer the latter. All of the other features remain similar including the 2TB micro SD card capacity, an app that enables remote control capabilities from a mobile device. If you’re an IOS user it might fare you best to get the R2 II since the app offered with the M0 Pro doesn’t work on that platform. Design

Regarding other connectivity, the M1s offers a range of options to cater to different user preferences. It has WiFi connectivity for AirPlay and DLNA and Bluetooth 5.0 with LDAC and aptX HD codecs. This ensures seamless wireless connectivity and high-quality audio transmission.

Shanling covers the specs generously because I got a little over 16 hours using a very efficient 16Ω IEM at half volume or less. All the efficient IEMs I tested gave me the same basic results. The bottom line here is that the battery will get you through an entire day if you use IEMs. Updated MTouch system gets all the extra features from the M5s, including Wi-Fi connection and streaming capabilities, it even adapts a similar UI design. But this time powered by a more advanced Ingenic X2000 platform, opening space for future software development. Of course, the M1s performs slightly better, it has twice the power and a dual amplifier chip setup plus a beefier processor. But this is only in certain circumstances, for example, in case you want to push less efficient IEMs. This is manifest mostly at the low end, which sounds softer and less impactful than the Shanling’s. The Sony has a warmer, smoother tonality which does work well for low-quality files but is significantly less resolving and extended at both ends. I also found the Sony’s various DSP tunings artificial-sounding.

To my eyes, images look crisp enough on this screen and are well-defined. However, because of the screen size the touch functions well but it takes some getting used to due to the small amount of swipe that has to be applied. When it comes to sound, first of all, let me comment on this little player’s power. I tried a bunch of full-sized headphones and IEMs with this player, and it could drive all of them (both dynamic and planar) with good speed and dynamics, especially from the balanced output. Remember, you could use the R2 II to drive a TWS via Bluetooth which will allow you to obtain the best battery life in general. The versatility level allows for options. The Shanling M0 Pro box design is decorated to be bright and colorful, similar to the box its big brother the M3 Ultra comes in. They seem to have a dual-sun theme going on the front of the insert. The main product box is a very bright orange color. Today we are releasing firmware update V2.3, adding our built-in Tidal app to all M1s players, for full Tidal Online Streaming over Wi-Fi.Battery life has become a very argumentative issue lately and I admit that some currently listed specifications are vague due to so many variants in current demands from different full-sized headphones. Not so much from IEMs but they do have different efficiency variations and that also affects testing results. I could never kill off the battery using Bluetooth in one day, particularly transmitting to a TWS. Each one of my TWS sets would probably go under completely before the need to charge the M1s comes up. The battery did go under needing a charge after over a week of laying around even though the unit comes with an auto-shutoff feature. The small Shanling M0 Pro surely feels sturdy since the main body is made from a solid chunk of aluminum which is then CNC-shaped. The Shanling M0 Pro looks like a miniature M3 Ultra. It has similar slotted sides and a similar multifunction rotary volume knob. You also have the “Eddict Player” app from Shanling to control the device from your phone. It also has WiFi, although not for streaming purposes (for now), but for connecting to your home network.

By doubling up on DAC chips, Shanling was able to obtain better rendering capacity out of the M0 Pro compared to the older M0 plus dual channel and balanced output capability. They were also able to obtain more data conversion fluidity and a much higher headphone output capacity. The Shanling M1s has a slightly brighter presentation compared to other Shanling gear but it does not veer from neutral much either and does retain an overall naturally balanced character. Perhaps there’s just a smear of a better top-end reach. Tonality overall produces a natural timbre with just a hint of the Shanling soft-mannered warm character. The HiBy R2 II also has a 2.4gHz WiFi radio that is capable of talking to a DLNA-capable device or an Apple Airplay device to stream music into the R2 II wirelessly. You can also access a NAS plus import files into the R2 II from said devices. Instead, the M1s has quite a different signature—tonally a bit bright, with lean, crisp notes and a conspicuously forward midrange which highlights horns/male voices. Bass is tight and controlled but not especially deep or visceral; high end is very well-extended and presents a lot of microdetail. If you have a dime to spare, please donate, and help us! It would make the day brighter for me and my wife-

For a budget device, it seems to punch way above its price point far as a proper and interesting soundstage. Perhaps the premium DAC is the culprit here.

A technology at the service of sound

The Q1 used the ancient Ingenics X1000 process like many non-android DAP's. I have to wonder how much this affected what Shanling could do with the OS? With the X2000 in the M1S hopefully the software can go to the next level. Shanling specs list power output at 144mW SE and 245mW balanced into a 32Ω load at 1kHz. They also list a dynamic range of 123db at 32Ω and a THD-N of 0.0007% which are good numbers by today’s standards. Versatile DAC Now, remember the M1s has no internal storage so you must get an SD card in there unless you want to use the M1s for streaming exclusively which can easily be done through WiFi or Bluetooth connectivity.
