Once they were able to talk to each other again, they both felt very happy. Kenna also helped Skandar and his quartet to save The Island. Skandar certainly agreed with that. When he’d first arrived on the Island, Skandar had believed there were only four elements: fire, water, earth, and air. But after Scoundrel had hatched, it had become clear that they were allied to an illegal fifth element—the spirit element—just like the Weaver. With a lot of help from his quartet, Skandar had managed to pretend he was a water wielder for most of his first year. The truth had come out eventually, though, and now that everyone—other than Kenna and Dad—knew he was allied to the so-called death element, whispers followed him along every swinging bridge and up every ladder. It was going to be a long time before the Eyrie trusted a spirit wielder. Flo’s mother, Sara, encourages the kids not to give into the bullies and says, “So the people with the power don’t like spirit wielders. What if they decide they don’t like healers next? Or saddlers? Or riders with flaming hair? Nothing gives the Silver Circle the right to abuse their power.” (p. 100) Write an opinion essay about why we should stand up to bullies who are trying to abuse their power. It can be political, about world or national affairs, or it can be personal, about people or kids in your own community. In the second book, Alastair even goes to lengths to say that Skandar is actually helping the Weaver (although that was false) and tried to turn other riders against Skandar.
The next morning, whilst in the Earth training ground, Amber and the Threat Quartet rode up to the Quartet and Bobby noticed Amber's star mutation, saying, 'you've got something gross on your head'. As the thirteen year-olds kept on walking, there was a bedazzling unicorn display although Skandar didn't appreciate it as he was still conflicted about the Spirit Element. At the end of path, there was an enormous tree, the leaves were a mixture of different colours, deep red, cornfield yellow, emerald green, sea blue and a few whites. On both sides of the tree were giant walls with plants surrounding them, similar to the Great Barrier Reef. When the sentinels opened the entrance, Flo welcomed him and they all looked around at the armoured trees and towering treehouses. There were shouts from the bridges of treehouses, shouts of 'There she is!' and 'Look, new a silver!'. Flo then explained that the Eyrie was built around the Divide because it helped their unicorns reach their full potential. Even though Mitchell generally is hesitant to do things that might get him into trouble, he still helps Skandar to cross Fault lines and do other risky acts. Along with that, during the Training Trial, Mitchell helps Skandar so he wouldn't get declared a nomad. Skandar is Kenna's younger brother. They get along well; Kenna always defended Skandar from bullies when he wasn't able to stand up for himself. They both love Chaos Cup and are interested in the riders.
