Finally, SSEA (the Stanford Summer Engineering Academy) is a four-week program where students come to campus to partake f in Math and Computer Science classes and community-enhancing experiences. As its name suggests, this is intended for students who have at least some interest in majoring in engineering, although that is not a requirement.Students in any of these programs who identify as first generation/low income are eligible to apply to attend a final one-week residential program called THRIVE that takes place in early September, before other first year students arrive. A collaboration between these two programs, called LSPxSOAR, is an online program which follows the SOAR curriculum over five weeks in late June and July, and provides community building opportunities for first generation and/or low-income students. Students then come to campus for a one-week pre-orientation program from September 12-18th focused on community building and an introduction to Stanford resources. If a child is receiving universal provision and their family meets the eligibility criteria detailed below then local authorities should encourage those families to apply for Free School Meals on the basis of low income, with details on how they meet the qualifying criteria.
