And, you know, the parent story was just not the end of the story,” Winston reflects. “Harold Biddle was this sweet kid who had this horrible thing happen and it was a part of the legacy of his family… We wrapped up the parent story but that idea of evil still kind of lingering was still there. We wanted to make sure that we didn’t do what a lot of shows do and end without answering any of the big, tough questions. We challenged ourselves to answer those tough questions.”

To say that the wait for Synapse Films’ U.S. Blu-ray debut of Suspiria was well worth it would be a gross understatement. This is one of the most beautiful horror films ever made and this release is one of the most beautiful Blu-ray releases ever mounted by any distribution company, big or small… this is the definitive release of the film to own, bar none.”– The Digital Bits Century-Fox acquired Dario Argento's " Suspiria " for U.S. release". Variety. varietyultimate.com. 11 May 1977 . Retrieved 2 September 2017.Dolby Atmos fans have a new disc to demo - Suspiria makes terrific use of the object-based audio format. From pouring rain and rumbling thunder outside to the thumps and thuds of the dance company inside - the film's audio mix oozes with atmospheric activity. Rain is a big activity effect through I'd wager about 2/3 of the film. Either a scene takes place outside in a downpour, or the characters are inside and the rain is hitting windows or the sides of walls. Similarly, when the film segues to winter, the sound of people stepping on brittle ice and snow gives a beautiful directional echoing effect against the concrete walls. The all-new bonus content for Five Nights at Freddy’s gives a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the iconic animatronics and recreating the immersive world of the game. It was announced through MTV in 2008 that a remake of Suspiria was in production, to be directed by David Gordon Green, who directed films such as Undertow and Pineapple Express. [55] The announcement was met with hostility by some, [56] including Argento himself. [57] The film was to be produced by Italian production company First Sun. [58] In August 2008, it was reported that Natalie Portman and Annette Savitch's Handsome Charlie Films were set to produce the remake, and that Portman would play the lead role. [59] The project was also announced to be produced by Marco Morabito and Luca Guadagnino. [60] After a period of no news in which it was thought that the remake attempt had failed, Green said in August 2011 that he was still trying to remake the film. [56] It was announced on 15 May 2012 that actress Isabelle Fuhrman would be cast as the lead. [61] Later that year, however, the planned remake was put on hold. In January 2013, Green revealed that it might never happen due to legal issues. [62] In April 2014, Green admitted the remake was too expensive to make during the " found-footage boom", and thus the film was ultimately not made. [63] What do you say about a film like Suspiria? In his followup to Call Me By Your Name, director Luca Guadagnino seems hellbent on making a horror feature that isn't designed for any specific audiences in mind - other than himself. With its plodding pace, fractured structure, the infusion of social-political themes - the film is constantly working to keep the audience at an arm's length while daring the viewer to continue forward. Those already initiated by Argento's colorful psychedelic original may be put off by this rendition's left turns while newcomers who know the original only by name and reputation may be left out in the rain by the plodding misdirections. You are either going to absolutely hate it, or marvel at its brazen approach to the horror genre. Suspiria is a Hollywood remake of the original horror classic directed by renowned filmmaker Dario Argento ( Phenomena). The

Andrew Cooper notes "Aesthetic experience is arguably the ultimate source of 'meaning' in all of Argento's films, but Suspiria and the other films of the Three Mothers trilogy...take their emphasis on aesthetics further by self-consciously connecting their irrational worlds to nineteenth-century romanticism and the aestheticism that grew out of it." [4] Unfilmed remake [ edit ] In the giallo, as practiced by masters such as Mario Bava and Dario Argento, there’s an amoral yet almost joyful grasp of death as simply being a matter of aesthetic. The blood in these films is intentionally fake—gorgeous, garish paint that exists as another hue to complement the explosion of colors that define the giallo’s often extraordinary set designs. When a character splashes red wine all over a porcelain sink in Suspiria, Argento highlights the similarities between the drugged drink and the blood that splatters robustly throughout the film. It’s a joke on the nature of the giallo, linking violence to consumption, a sensual intertwinement that also leads inevitably to sex.Suspiria is one of the greatest films ever made. It’s a big, bold film that isn’t afraid to go over-the-top. From the opening frame through the closing credits, this is a movie that sets out to make an impression and that’s exactly what it does. If you’re looking for something more nuanced, more subtle, this probably isn’t what you want. But if you want something that is going to light up your senses and leave your jaw firmly planted on the floor, then yeah, that’s Suspiria. Special Features Jessica Harper (PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE, PENNIES FROM HEAVEN) stars in this frightening tale of a young student who uncovers dark and horrific secrets within the walls of a famous German dance academy. "Fox covers its prints on its part in 'Suspiria' ". Chicago Tribune. p.7 – via Newspapers.com. The plot itself is sparse and plain as it follows a young American dancer named Suzy (Jennifer Harper) through the stressful demands of a prestigious ballet academy. The highly-stylized Italian film surrounds the aspiring dancer with a loud and flamboyant air of mystery and suspense while the disturbing stares of the school's cook and the Village of the Damned-like boy plunge the hallways into maddening tension. Headmistress Madame Blanc (Joan Bennett) seems friendly on the outside, but there's always a sense of something far darker and more sinister behind her smile. Meanwhile, the austere and foreboding instructor Miss Tanner (Alida Valli) proudly stomps through the halls with a harsh, stern glare as though she earned the right to do so. Even more interesting is Argento subverting conventions of the giallo by making men unavailable or physically impaired, serving little purpose or failing in stereotypical feats of gallantry. Bold, brash and terrifyingly entertaining, Suspiriais a macabre horror-thriller that pushed the boundaries and has rightly earned its enormous, worldwide cult following. De Quincey, Thomas (2001). But this mix isn't limited to merely accurately portraying the sounds of inclement weather. The dance sequences of the troop stomping their feet and slapping the floors are really impressive when the full company of dancers is active in the practice room. Then there is the first mirror-room murder sequence which is a combination of those dance sounds and some truly distressing grotesque bodily sound effects. It's delightfully horrific squishy stuff! Thom Yorke's score while not nearly as iconic as Goblin's original does offer its own extra essence of mood and angst pressing the low dissonant tones and punching in the LFE quite nicely. a b Gonzalez, Ed (8 January 2002). In the U.S.A., in 1977, the film was trimmed for an R rating (removing some of the more graphic violence), but our version is the complete, uncut, uncensored version of the film as it was originally intended to be seen. We also enlisted the help of SUSPIRIA’s original Director of Photography, Luciano Tovoli. He supervised and approved every aspect of our transfer to his exacting look and specifications.” I'm never bothered by the idea of remakes. They happen all the time so I don't get worked up or bent out of shape about them. Instead, I become curious about what new direction a filmmaker could take the material with it still being somewhat familiar while being different enough to be worth the time. Even when they're at their worst they never detract from the original material. Guadagnino definitely did not make a shot-for-shot remake of Argento's Suspiria ! It challenges your expectations while teasing you in which direction the story is headed. I appreciate that it didn't try to ape the bright primary-fueled color scheme of the original while also letting Radiohead's Thom Yorke fill each scene with a tonally dissonant and arresting barrage of sounds rather than mimic Goblin's iconic score.
