About this deal

Finally, that ending - with the buildup that Qureshi was hinting at, to then have that be subverted for a detour that served little more than a fake out to then wrap up with two endings that the reader chooses. The two endings aren't the issue, but rather much like the earlier complaint of the pacing, the endings also came up as abrupt and shifted the overall impact on how the story for these characters could have played out. Disclaimer: I received a free review copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my rating. I loved reading about the concept of family loyalty, the question of how strong is blood, and should we really put our full faith in those who were are connected to no matter what? Durkhanai had to make some hard decisions in this book, and I really enjoyed the fact that none of them were made lightly; she is a character who puts so much thought and consideration into things, and it makes her all the more interesting to read about. As a Young Adult romance with court intrigue, this reads...like a Young Adult romance with court intrigue. It's sweet, it's funny at times, it has the infamous "moody rebellious teenagers" thing going on, so on and so on. Basically, if you love YA and you love romance, I'd say this is a book for you.

The father said, ‘Very well, if I can manage it, you shall have it’; and he kissed all three and set off. He bought pearls and diamonds for the two eldest, but he had searched everywhere in vain for the singing, soaring lark, and this worried him, for his youngest daughter was his favourite child.

The Lady or the Lion was a fantastic and refreshing read. This is a debut people shouldn't miss out on. Asfandyar— the love interest was just so charming, and amazing, and funny LIKE I cannot talk about his and Durkhanai’s dynamic without physically screaming my lungs out alright? Their romance was forbidden, but that made me root for them even more, and I loved every single aspect about it. All the characters were really well developed— even the side characters like Dhadi and Agha-Jaan. The ending was just— we do not talk about it, we only talk about the fact THAT BOOK 2 IS NO MORE A WANT, IT IS A NEED. I just— *incoherent screaming* asfandyars proposal to durkhanai was just the cutest and sweetest thing I swear my heart was like swelling because I just loved it. they were just the sweetest thing ive been needing in my life at this point.

Summary: Perfect for fans of These Violent Delightsand The Wrath and the Dawn, this scintillating debut retells“The Lady or the Tiger?” against a Pakistan-inspired world of forbidden love and court intrigues. But the Lion said it would be too dangerous, for if a gleam of light touched him he would be changed into a Dove and would have to fly about for seven years. The romance between her and Asfandyar is trope filled and swoon-worthy. It’s honestly one of my favourite parts of the book. The banter! The yearning! The flirting! Forbidden, secretive love has so much scope for angst and tension and Aamna did it so damn well that I honestly wanted to scream reading some scenes. While her goal may seem simple, the journey is anything but, and she finds herself wrapped up in politics and court intrigue, not knowing who to trust and who to suspect, but perhaps most pressing of all, not knowing who to love. the lady or the lion is a warm romantic tale that is both hopeful and depressing and just beautiful, and i can’t wait to read the next book and see where these characters take me.

The Lady, or the Tiger? was adapted into a short film by Encyclopaedia Britannica Educational Corporation in 1970. [6] [7] So the Man let himself be persuaded, took the lark, and promised to the Lion for his own whatever first met him on his return home. When he reached home, and entered his house, the first person who met him was none other than his youngest daughter; she came running up and kissed and caressed him, and when she saw that he had brought the singing, soaring lark, she was beside herself with joy. But her father could not rejoice; he began to cry, and said, ‘My dear child, it has cost me dear, for I have had to promise you to a Lion who will tear you in pieces when he has you in his power.’ And he told her all that had happened, and begged her not to go, come what might. I’m just going to say it— I loved Durkhanai so much. I do not care if she was a spoiled princess, she literally deserves everything in the world and I will protect her at all costs. She was such a great character too, she was so attached to her family, she was emotional, she was also sharp, stubborn, and cared about her people a lot— I mean if this doesn’t make you fall in love with her then I don’t know what is.
