About this deal

NOTE: Some of the spaces on the board are doubled. Double spaces are used only in games with 4 or 5 players. Exhibition catalogue, The 53 Stations of the Tokaido Road Paintings by Nigel Caple, edited by Matthew Shaul, published by UH Galleries (University of Hertfordshire Galleries), 2001. ISBN 1898543658. In the event of a tie, all tied players score points from that rank; e.g., two players tied for first place score 10 points each.

Note: If players are tied after the final scoring, then the player with the most achievement cards wins. Note: There are 3 other achievement cards that are awarded during game play. One for each different type of panorama and each is awarded to the player that is first to complete the specific panorama. Temple: At the Temple space, the player may donate between 1 and 3 coins to the Temple, by placing them on the designated space for his color in the Temple area of the board. These coins remain there throughout the game, and score the player 1 point for each coin donated. At the end of the game, the donations of each player are ranked and earn extra endgame points depending on that rank. Panoramas are just one of the many ways to score points in Tokaido. The additional components allow you to take an alternative action at each location (you can still take the standard action). These actions are more advanced, and potentially offer higher rewards, but also higher risks. For instance, you can gamble how much money to receive at a farm, you can buy legendary items at a souvenir shop, amulets (that can be used later for certain bonuses) at temples, etc. Encounters: At this space, the player draws an Encounter card, and applies the effect shown on it. These effects range from earning extra points or coins, to being able to draw an extra Souvenir or Panorama card.Discover the digital adaptation of Tokaido, the boardgame phenomenon that has already sold more than 250,000 copies worldwide, and has been translated into 14 languages! The action spaces allow a variety of actions that will score in different, but roughly equal, ways. Some action spaces allow players to collect money, while others offer players a way to spend that money to acquire points. Other action spaces allow players to engage in various set collections that score points for assembling those sets. Some action spaces simply award players points for stopping on them, or give the player a randomly determined action from all of the other types. Tokaido Duo is easy to learn, but difficult to master, ensuring that each game is unique and challenging. Whether you are a seasoned board game enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this game is sure to provide hours of fun and entertainment. Inns are the only mandatory stops for all players. They symbolize the end of a long traveler’s day. You can buy meals at them: each type of meal gives you six victory points. You better save your money for your dinner, as going to bed hungry is a costly affair in Tokaido! Languages supported: French, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, Japanese, Chinese.

The road itself is static. Unlike Parks, where you can set the tiles up randomly, in Tokaido, you always follow the same layout of locations. The only variable factor is that some locations offer more slots when there are more players playing.

Getting the special powers early in the game is very useful. You don’t want your opponent to get there before you. The hot springs token is useful but you need to use it before your opponent lands on a hot springs station and pinches it from you. It’s always quite fun leaving the pilgrim die for your opponent with the perfect number that forces them to land on one of the coastal towns where they get a few coins. They’re not the best of spots. That’s really it for interaction and that fits with the gentle theme. Do I Get To Make Any Meaningful Decisions Swartz, Susan (December 17, 1995), "The artist who put Mendocino on the map", Santa Rosa Press-Democrat . Hirotada (8) At temple spaces, may take 1 coin from the bank and donate it to the temple, scoring 1 point; does this in addition to normal temple action Timeless Gameplay: Tokaido’s gameplay is a blend of strategy and relaxation, allowing players to savor every moment of their journey. Make choices about where to visit, what to collect, and who to meet, all while taking in the breathtaking scenery.

Time will be your best means to remain clear-sighted, methodical, and patient so that you don't miss anything on this unique route but instead can fully savor the experience the Tokaido has to offer! The first time I read through the game rules, I have to say that I wasn’t too impressed. But even though the rules are simple, and you aren’t supposed to be doing much more than moving along the road peacefully and taking whatever actions you come upon, there is still a good amount of strategy needed if you want to become the winning Zen master. First and foremost is the movement rule, with the player in last place being able to take the next turn. Souvenir shop allows you to buy up to three souvenirs. There are plenty available, separated into 4 sorts trinkets, clothing, art, or cuisine. Sets and diversity are awarded with victory points.

These are cards that can have numerous effects, ranging from a free item from the village, to three free coins. There are three different Panorama spaces: Sea, Mountain, and Fields. They require 3, 4, or 5 visits to complete, with each visit rewarding more points. Moreover, the first player to complete a vista gets even more bonus points. In 2012, a board game called Tokaido, designed by Antoine Bauza, was published by Funforge. [12] In the game, players compete against one another to travel the Tōkaidō from Kyoto to Edo. Funforge developed a digital edition of the game, published in 2017. Bundle together with your belongings delightfully unexpected souvenirs, from the most modest to the most sophisticated, that you gather from surprising encounters that may change the course of your travels.
