In terms of community living, these animals congregate in organized groups. These groups consist of one male and 2 to 7 females with their younglings. How to protect them: Unfortunately, the proboscis monkey is currently assessed as endangered by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species — and its population has decreased more than 50% in the last 50 years. The primary reason is deforestation — with companies cutting down the creatures’ habitats to use the land for palm oil production.
