Return to the subterranean world of Blood Bowl in Dungeon Bowl: Death Match, the first expansion box for 2021’s Dungeon Bowl . The Colleges of Magic have sponsored two more teams to delve into the depths below, and this time the faculties of Life and Death clash in the 2494 Dungeon Bowl final. Unlike Crypt of Blood before it, Hunter & Hunter is not a starter set. This is essentially “expansion” content to your Warcry games, and won’t teach you how to get started with the system. If you’re new to Warcry, you’ll need to make sure you have a decent understanding of the rules before you’re able to make head or tail of what’s going on in this box. Warcry is the fast-paced skirmish game set within the Mortal Realms of Warhammer Age of Sigmar, which sees small warbands fighting it out for glory, loot, or a simple thirst for blood. At Warhammer Preview Online – Summer Skirmish, we announced the second edition of the game, spearheaded by the new Heart of Ghur boxed set. Since Crypt of Blood, Warcry boxes have been downsized. Now arriving in an A4-sixed container as oppose to the far larger boxes with similar dimensions to those we usually see new editions or army boxes launching in. This isn’t an unwelcome change, as they’re easier to store (if you keep the boxes, that is).

The Accessories

In total, the box contains five sprues of terrain, the same amount as Sundered Fate, but one sprue less than the Heart of Ghur core box. Three of the sprues are repeated from the other sets – the two sprues with Gnarloaks, and the sprue with the scatter terrain and rope ladder bridges. Warcry is also a highly vertical game, in that your troops can climb structures and leap across gaps. This supports the cinematic feel of the fast-paced conflict. It also rewards creative terrain modeling. The warband is ‘lead’ by the Wielder of the Blade, a powerful melee combatant with a three-damage weapon, who can resurrect his own minions after he slays an enemy model – the warband is hyper-focused on decapitation. The Kruleboyz bring up the rear in terms of saving but are the cheapest box without any half strength units so everything here can go in your Age of Sigmar army. If you’re starting a Kruleboyz army you’re still better off with the Kruleboys half of Dominion or the Extremis Starter Set if you can find it, either give you the benefit of the Swampcaller Shaman to lead your Gutrippaz into battle, but if you’re expanding an army this is probably worth a look. Crypt of Blood is the new Warcry starter set, and is firmly targeted at introducing new players to the game. The box contains everything you need to start playing! The Set Hunter and Hunted also comes with a brand new piece of terrain – a troublingly toothsome Mawpit, complete with a bone pulpit built over its fanged rim by worshipful ogors. These peristaltic potholes must constantly eat or else return to stone and dirt, and so consume anything that ventures near them, screeching and howling the moment they finish their meal. This may be the best box set release Games Workshop has ever put together for Warcry. The warbands are iconic right from the jump and they're diametrically opposed to one another in design, play style, and overall warband ethos. The terrain, while a bit difficult to assemble (those muscled trees take some precision gluing), is evocative, fun to paint and really sets the mood (and there are fun rules for fighting around them). All the dice and other materials are as high quality as you'd expect, and the new rules - especially the reactions - are a bold step forward in the design of the game. I can't put it more plainly, Warcry Heart of Ghur is an absolute triumph for the game, and will continue to propel the Warcry hobby forward. This set comes with 26 miniatures, including a vicious Wandering Werewolf to add extra danger to your games, as well as seven double-sided dungeon tiles, a trove of useful counters and tokens, and a Death Match rulebook wrapped up in a special copy of Spike! magazine. This massive preview will cover Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Age of Sigmar, The Horus Heresy, Blood Bowl, Warhammer Underworlds, Warcry, and The Old World, making it a must-see for everyone.
