About this deal

T and LFL group lights, refer to tubular and linear fluorescent lights, respectively, and include specialty and vintage lights. Fluorescent light bulbs come in a range of sizes. They are part of the T and LFL group of bulbs, and have two dimensions: length and diameter. The fluorescent tube type is established by its diameter, with a T8 bulb having a one inch (8/8 inch) diameter, a T5 having a 5/8 inch diameter, and a T12 being a 12/8 inch (1.5 inch) in diameter . All of these fluorescent tube lights are available in different lengths and wattages.

While the Essentials A19 bulb is (as you’ve probably gathered by now) compatible with HomeKit and Google Assistant, it’s not compatible with Alexa, which marks something of a break with Nanoleaf’s previous smart lights. A Nanoleaf rep didn’t offer a timeline for when Alexa support might arrive, or whether it will arrive at all. Bottom line The name “Exx” is made up of the letters “E” for “Edison” and “xx” for the millimeter diameter measured across the peaks of the thread on the base (male).

Since they have the same base, you may be thinking that it won’t really make a difference choosing between the 2 since they can be used interchangeably anyway. While this is actually true to a certain extent, knowing the differences between an A19 vs A21 bulb will help you work around heat dissipation issues, as well as energy efficiency issues.

The ANSI standard recommends using an E26 base when mounting A19 into a light fixture. The E stands for Edison, a type of screw-in lamp base, while 26 refers to an A19’s base measurement in millimeters. As the name suggests, the fitting is 12 millimeters in diameter size and is often deemed the Candelabra Edison Screw (CES). It is the home of C7-sized lamps, so if you bought a C7 lamp before, it utilized the E12 fitting. Thankfully, technological advancement has significantly improved the quality of artificial lighting sources over time. These technological advancements led to the invention of A19 light bulbs, a more advanced and energy-efficient light source. Lighting terminologies can be confusing if you’re new in the industry. The fact is that light bulbs like the A19 version have coded names with different meanings. As we have already established, the A21 bulb can have a higher lumen level since it has a bigger space for better heat dissipation. Because of this bigger size, manufacturers actually tend to make stronger lights of up to 100W using this size of the bulb. So, if you’re looking for a strong bulb for let’s say, your basement, your lamp, or a big living room lamp, then you might want to use A21 bulbs for these purposes.

Bulbs in the R and BR group include reflectors and bulged reflectors, respectively. While not as common as the A19, you’re still quite likely to see these bulbs in the home as outdoor floodlights or in recessed lighting. The most common are the BR30 and R20 bulbs, and they typically connect with the E26 or E27 bases.

LED Linear Fixtures

A19 bulbs come in specific dimensions based on wattage and voltage. As mentioned earlier, they have a base size of E26 with a diameter of 2.4 (19/8) inches in the US. Intermediate Screw Base (E17) Bulbs are sometimes called Intermediate Edison Screw (IES), “E” stands for “Edison” and “17” indicates the diameter in millimeters as measured across the peaks of the thread on the base
