About this deal

Obscure Spiders and Easter Eggs– Six minutes probably isn’t enough time for us to get all the references hidden in this film. But it’s a start. Suffice it to say you could watch this movie ten times and still probably miss a few of these cleverly hidden items. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" swings into cinematic brilliance, offering a dazzling and innovative experience that transcends the boundaries of animation. The film seamlessly continues the groundbreaking narrative introduced by its predecessor (Which I enjoyed more), delivering a web-slinging, visually stunning and emotionally resonant adventure. Dialogue is natural sounding and given all the directionality it needs, did get a tad quiet when Gwen was leaving her father the second time, but otherwise never lost in the mix.

You want eye candy? You want eye popping colour? You want one of the best video presentations ever? Creating the Ultimate Spider-Man Movie– The obligatory “making of…” feature that tells of the trials and tribulations of how this movie was made, to make it bigger, better, etc. but still retain the magic that the first one had.In the first installment, the movie centered on Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) who is thrust into a universe of endless possibilities inside the multi-verse where met new Spider characters along the way including Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman (Hailee Steinfeld). In this sequel, the film follows Morales just as much as it centers on Stacy as the two young adults try and understand their powers and that the multi-verse exists while keeping it all secret from their loved ones. It's a great parallel story where each character can learn from one another in different ways. By and large, this film did everything it was supposed to. The same visual elements that made the first so memorable are more at play here and I found it exhilarating to watch. It’ll most likely require a few viewings to soak everything in. That said, I couldn’t get into this one as much as I’d have liked. It’s almost like there was too much going on. Or maybe it’s that it’s been five years since I saw the first and I could/should have done a little brush up before diving head first into this one. That and, this really isn’t a spoiler, this is only the first of a two part finale. And let’s just say that they aren’t too discreet about how they “end” this one. But the same elements are at play here (yes, I realize I said that in my opening sentence). We get more of Miles and Gwen as well as a new slew of Spider-Man’s that you didn’t even know existed (Lego Spider-Man included). This one delivers on anything and everything it was supposed to, now the wait for “Part II” is upon us. Video: How’s it look? Creating the Ultimate Spider-Man movie. Fourteen mins on the creation of the movie. Pretty absorbing stuff and it does go into good detail. It's not just a publicity piece.

Plot: What’s it about? Video: How’s it look? Audio: How’s it sound? Supplements: What are the extras? The Bottom Line Plot: What’s it about? Obscure Spiders and Easter Eggs (1080p; 5:39): A brief rundown of the many Easter Eggs scattered throughout the film. Number 42 is the answer to the meaning of life, the universe and everything, at least according to the The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. And, rather prophetically, it kind of is in the Spider-verse as well. Because it was the radioactive spider from this particular universe that spins the web that intertwines Miles Moralas and the rest of the Spider-men throughout existence. It can’t be a coincidence. Across the Worlds: Designing New Dimensions– The title essentially says it all – we get the rundown on how the new universe(s) were created. The Spot is a villain taken from Spider-Man comics. He's not the biggest threat there compared to some. And has been regarded as lame. But then things get threatening here. And in addition to his increasing problems of balancing things, Miles now has to contend with a threat to the Multiverse.....

Across the Spider-Verse 4K Video

Forget that it’s an upscale, this Spidey image is out-of-this-world gorgeous. There aren’t enough superlatives to express how good this image is. Across the Comics-Verse (1080p; 8:03): Hiring many of the artists from the comic books to help design characters and worlds.

Indeed, it is the interpersonal relationships, and the internal conflict of the characters that really move the story along – the ‘canon events’ that are so essential to the narrative are quintessentially the driving force behind the Spider-man character, and every Spider-man must go through them, it’s what makes him who he is. So, when Gwen is struggling with her father due to her own story, it is immediately recognisable even though the catalyst is different. This shared tragedy unites Gwen and Miles, hence their being drawn (haha, geddit) together. Thereby in writing the characters from this standpoint, there is a huge emotional hook, one of understanding - and one of justice; so, when it comes to choosing one over many, it is easy, and the audience is on board. That is the only issue anyone could have with this movie. The slowing down and leaving it hanging that is, not that more is to come. Because otherwise it really an amazing film. It's a PG certificate so a bit too much perhaps for the very young to take in. I will say though it doesn't have anything, even with all that the animation does, that should bother epileptics or anyone who can't handle flashing lights. I am in the latter group and was fine with it. So that was nice. Raising a Hero: nine minutes on some of the characters and their dynamics. Also interesting to hear what is said. I’mma Do My Own Thing” Interdimensional Destiny (1080p; 8:26): A look at the many questions Miles faces in the movie. If they want to wait for the Blu-ray and 4K UHD versions of Across the Spider-Verse, they will be released on September 5. Deleted Scene– Only one –“Miguel Calling” though given the film’s running time of nearly two and a half hours, this was cut.

In Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse the tone is about becoming an adult and spreading one's wings to figure out what one wants to be as Morales is hounded by his parents about his school work and staying close to home during his college years. After something goes awry in Stacy's universe, she is called into action by a collective of Spider-people from all universes to try and save the day when and wherever they can. Headed by Spider-Man 2099 Miguel O'Hara (Oscar Isaac) this collective allows Stacy to reteam with Morales who wants nothing more than to help out and be the best he can be. Just as he finally feels like he's being accepted, Milese soon realizes that his views of being a hero clash with Miguel's and the collective of Spider-people forcing Miles and Gwen to question their beliefs of right and wrong. You have never seen animation like this before. This does take a few mins to settle down. But after the first set piece battle, you will be well into this. There is one sequence that those who are sensitive to flashing lights will have to close their eyes for. But just one.

From the moment the film began, I was captivated by the vibrant and dynamic animation style that sets the Spider-Verse apart. The kaleidoscope of colours and the fluidity of movement create a visual feast that is nothing short of breathtaking. The animation is not just a technical marvel. Still, it serves as a storytelling tool, enhancing the narrative and bringing the characters to life in a fresh and exhilarating way.
