It’s a great remote control, but it’s a little bulky. I’d used one of the older versions a few years ago, so I knew what to expect. The benefit of Android TV is that it’s designed to work with standard remote controls. But you don’t have that in pure Android. Some things NEED an air-mouse to replicate touching a different part of the screen. Separate from those is a host of PCs that are undeniably small but follow their own shape and size rules. Zotac, a major player in small PCs (and one of the category's unsung innovators), offers a huge range of Zbox PCs that range in size from a fat smartphone to a bulky Discman. Shuttle, too, is another small-PC pioneer, offering machines in a host of shapes. On the macOS side of things, the venerable Apple Mac miniis a sleek, square silver box with rounded edges that saw a big update in in January 2023. Like the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, it received Apple's homegrown M1 and M2 processors, greatly increasing its performance. Mini PCs, also known as minicomputers, are a variant of computers that possess most of the features and capabilities of a large computer but are smaller in size.The operating system of your PC is an important point of consideration. At the time of writing, Windows 10 is unequivocally the most common operating system in the world, and it is what you will find most mini PCs pre-loaded with. It’s a big remote, as shown in the picture below. But it’s solidly built and definitely doesn’t feel flimsy or cheap. Most modern mini PC models will make use of an M.2 solid-state drive (SSD) as their main drive. This will either be an M.2 SATA drive for more budget models, but is usually replaced by an M.2 NVMe SSD for more premium models. Those looking for the fastest NUC might head to the new Intel NUC 13 Pro, but that assumption might be premature. The Beelink SER6 Pro 7735HS, as the name infers, is built around the latest AMD Ryzen 7000 mobile technology and can match or better the latest Intel 13th Gen silicon. The Android Mini PC RK3188 is able to conduct video or voice chats using popular apps like Skype and Google Hangouts. However, the system didn't recognize any of the two USB headsets and three different webcams we plugged in.
With early access to the silicon, Intel got a 13th Gen NUC out of the door first. But other brands, like Minisforum, are now joining that party. More colourful than most office PCs and with more of a game console vibe, the AD08 might look less out of place in a child's bedroom. But despite looking like a powerhouse on paper, the AD08 doesn’t perform that well when presented with tasks that require heavy multi-threading or raw GPU performance. Notably, the M2 chip is far more power efficient than the x86 architecture found in most PCs. In terms of performance to watt, the Apple model will wipe the floor with most competitors, which makes the Mac mini ideal if you value efficiency in terms of both power and thermals. It runs a complete version of macOS and can even handle Windows on ARM using virtualization software like Parallels Desktop. The NUC PCs and their ilk tend to be around 5 or 6 inches square, though Intel's 2020 NUC 9 Extreme (followed by NUC 11, 12, and 13 Extreme versions) changes this somewhat. The NUC 9 Extreme was a new mini PC platform that Intel is encouraging partner manufacturers to utilize for many different types of PCs, based on a core-computing module called the Compute Element. While it's technically a mini PC, full retail models from partners, such as the Razer Tomahawk, can be much larger than the small square boxes we're used to associating with NUCs.
