In Joe Dirt, Joe realizes that a woman who is intensely attracted to him may be his long-lost sister, but because he's normally such a loser romantically, he doesn't tell her until after they have sex. Fortunately, it turns out her brother wasn't long-lost, they found him again almost immediately, meaning she's not related to Joe. This means they can have sex again, but Joe can't get it up anymore - until they role play being brother and sister. In the present day setting of the movie, Joe then admits he made that last part up to gross out his listeners. The Clive Owen movie Close My Eyes is all about this: he has an incestuous sexual relationship with a sister he's not seen for years. It seems to be some kind of metaphor for the decadence and corruption of Thatcher's England. To the senator's credit, it was an accident and the coverup was his sister's idea. Tony and Effy Stonem from the British teen soap Skins would be, um, a little bit fixated on each other even if one ignored the episode in which Tony hallucinates a beautiful girl asking him outright if he wants to ****** his sister. (Oh, and the first-season episode in which () a sociopathic thug Tony'd competed with over another girl kidnapped Effy, shot her full of heroin, and attempted to force Tony to have sex with her—y'know, as one does—leading to much angst and a really quite stunning shot of shirtless Tony carrying his unconscious little sister out into the night.) There's even a deleted scene from the second series where Tony has a nightmare about his best friend kind of becoming him by wearing his clothes... and kissing Effy. John Sayles' Lone Star: after they've begun a new relationship, the main character and his love interest find out the reason why his much hated father kept them apart while they were teen was because they were half-brother and sister. Since she is sterile, they decide to move somewhere their biological connection won't be known and go on with the relationship.

The twist ending, though, is that the rumors are completely true. If you experimented with your brother and either of you were much older than the other then there are serious issues here as it may be clear that one of you should have known better.

The film possesses a dark tone that reflects the unusual relationship between its characters, but it doesn’t tend to exploit the provocative nature of the story. There’s a sense of lurking danger felt throughout the movie, but the way it portrays its characters and their relationship make us empathize with them rather than trying to put us off with blatant emotional manipulation.
