Be sure to use embroidery foot when doing embroidery. Using another presser foot may cause the needle to strike the presser foot, causing the needle to bend or break and possibly cause injury. Free motion embroidery can be done on pretty much any normal sewing machine that will allow you to lower the feed dogs (so that you can move the fabric freely in any direction), and you can swap the normal sewing foot out of and replace it with a darning or embroidery foot. With free motion embroidery, you are essentially using the sewing machine needle like a pen and use it to draw around the edge of your fabric design.
