However, loads of families (ours included) commute successfully on a daily basis with a cheap trailer. Just don't expect them to last as long, have a high resale value, or be quite as easy to use.The windows on the Burley Bee have tinted windows that provide UV protection. This is great not only for keeping your kids skin protected, but also your child’s eyes. In addition to the aluminum roll cage and 5-point harness (the most important safety features in our opinion), the Bee also has additional safety features worth mentioning. It meets or exceeds all ASTM F1975-09 safety standards. At 31 inches across, it’s narrow enough to fit through our front door—just barely—and at 24.7 pounds, it’s lighter than our Chariot Cheetah, which weighs 26.5 pounds. It comfortably fits my two kids, but it’s worth noting that its total capacity is only 100 pounds. I'm probably only going to be able to carry both children in it for another year or so. In my honest opinion, the Burley Bee bike trailer is a great investment for any family that loves to ride bikes.

A 100 lb. weight capacity is standard in the double trailer category. Burley trailers break that down to mean 80 lbs. of child and 20 lbs. of cargo. In the left image below, we have an 18-month-old who weighs 27 lbs., and a 2.5-year-old who weighs 32 lbs. With a combined weight of just 59 lbs., they were still quite snug in the Bee. The Bee features 22″ of interior shoulder width, which is pretty standard for both budget and mid-range trailers. The Encore X is easy to assemble and use. Like Burley's jogging stroller, the Solstice, the manipulable parts are set off in bright yellow plastic, so you know exactly which parts you are supposed to wrestle with and which ones you should leave alone. For a minute, the stroller was poised over a three-foot drop. I held the roll bar from the top and lowered it to my spouse as I braced my feet on a tree root and thought "Hey, I might start shrieking, too." You can’t blame toddlers for tantrums when freaking out makes perfect sense. My only real complaint about the Burley Bee is not at all unique to the Bee–it’s true of all “budget” trailer–but it’s still worth mentioning. The floor is not reinforced and is just fabric.
The Cadence has a sunshade (point for Thule!), but the Bee has a much better harness and more legroom (two points for Burley!). Neither converts to a stroller.Many budget trailers have low-quality 16″ tires on plastic rims. 16″ tires, in general, are a disadvantage because safety precautions recommend a maximum of just 10 MPH. 20″ wheels, on the other hand, usually have a recommended maximum of 15 MPH.
