About this deal

Large print and plenty of illustrations make it fun for newly developing or reluctant readers and everyone else as well. A few years ago a friend recommended that I read His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman. He said that I would love the books and he was right. I'm going to recommend a favourite from my childhood called The Machine Gunners by Robert Westall. There's so much to read about what happens to grown-ups during the Second World War, but this focuses on a gang of kids and an incredible adventure that they have together. For anyone who has played at being soldiers in the schoolyard, this book is a dream come true. Told at a speed to match the time-travel theme of the story, this is a highly entertaining and wittily illustrated adventure which pays a lot of attention to food! Dreamy Compton Valance’s world is turned upside down when he comes across a very old sandwich which has some very unusual powers. Soon Compton Valance and his best-friend Bryan Nylon find they have the amazing power to travel through time. It’s a fun and frightening experience and the two boys have a lot of laughs on their unusual travels. The Roman name of the village is unknown, the present name being a mixture of Old English topographical

Although normally opening from April onwards, the museum and gardens open especially for the Snowdrop Festival between the 9th and 17th of February. My latest book, ALIENS INVADED MY TALENT SHOW, is about a boy called Eric Doomsday and his best friend, Vinnie Mumbles. Together they have to stop two aliens from destroying the earth. I have always been a Manchester United fan so when I was younger my hero was Bryan Robson. He was Captain Marvel and the best player in the world. He scored England's fastest ever goal at the World Cup in a match against France in 1982 (27 seconds). I loved him so much that I gave my character Bryan Nylon the same 'y' spelling of his name! in the nave - is the tower. Even the 17th century bells cast by the Purdue family were eventually re-castlying in a hollow in the hills of the Dorset Downs at the head of a small tributary to the River Frome. I really think that I could direct a movie and would LOVE to do it. I have a horror movie idea that I think could be a winner! If you could travel in time, where would you go first?

terms and a family name. ‘Compton’ means ‘farm or estate in a valley’, from Old English ‘cumb’ for valley When I was much younger I loved the Br'er Rabbit books. I still love stories where heroes survive on their wits and cunning. When I was about eight I read The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl and things haven't been quite the same since! Reverend Thomas Maldon’s church - who had rebuilt it in the 1400s and to whose memory there is a brass late winter. For two weeks in February the village becomes a bustling place as people come from miles and ‘tun’ for estate, while the manorial affix comes from William de Valencia, Earl of Pembroke, who wasDespite the Victorian makeover, the church retains a medieval appearance. Yet all that remains of the Our eponymous hero (really the names throughout should be applauded) Compton Valance has kept a terrible sandwich in his bag for far too long. It's gone horrifically mouldy but has somehow managed to grow time-travelling properties amongst the furry green culture. Mayhem ensues for the reader, Compton, his best friend Bryan Nylon, his father who may or may not be dressed as woman and ultimately the history of life on Earth when the boys accidentally wipe out dinosaurs with a wildly misjudged custard cream. The parish church has a 15th-century tower, but the rest of the building was rebuilt in 1838–1839 by Benjamin Ferrey. [3] The church is a Grade II* listed building. [4] Whilst on your visit to Shaftesbury for the Snowdrop Festival head to the Shaftesbury Abbey foundations. Nestled in their own private walled garden, the ruins of the once prolific Abbey promote a sense of serenity and calm for all who visit. It's silly, but actually, gives a good idea on the paradoxes of time travel, what might happen, time streams and the notions of changing the past.
