About this deal

Permatex provides reliability and problem-solving solutions that extend the life of your equipment, whether you require oils, additives, or dressings for special-mission, work applications or the rigors of heavy-duty requirements. Prevent Scuffing and Galling Some say synthetic oils are “too slippery” for use as a break-in oil while others say using a high quality synthetic oil for the initial break-in is a waste of money because the oil will be drained within a few hours or few hundred miles once the initial break-in process is finished. However, thinner oils also require somewhat closer bearing clearances to maintain the oil film between the moving parts. If you are assembling your own powertrain, assembly lube is an essential commodity. It is intended for use when assembling an engine.

To pressurize the oil lineups, you can spin the oil pump for some time. That’ll give you the oil pressure you need. Assembly lube’s purpose is to provide the initial lubrication during the startup of the engine. The lube is designed to work in conjunction with standard engine oil and provide a more robust protective barrier around the metal components during startup. COMP Cams® has been the leading manufacturer of high-performance camshafts and engine parts for more than four decades (Competition Cams). A heavier viscosity oil is better for looser bearing clearances and will maintain higher oil pressure readings at peak temperature and engine speeds. The engine’s oil system should be primed before the engine is cranked and started to prevent a dry start.

First and foremost is cleaning everything thoroughly BEFORE it goes into an engine. That includes brand new parts out of the box as well as machined and reconditioned parts. Red Line assembly lube provides great stability even at very high temperature. It protects the metal surface of the engine parts from waring off by reducing friction.

But what about those engine components not directly lubricated by engine oil pressure? Camshaft lobes, flat tappet lifters, and pushrod tips are lubricated only by splash after the engine is running. One can use oil to lubricate these parts prior to startup, but what about long-term storage? For the high-pressure usages, the manufacturers add some solid contents to their greases. Moly is the most popular ingredient for this purpose. The element Molybdenum is used for making different compounds. By the way, this is not a traditional Molybdenum based grease. But the manufacturer is claiming a three times firmer strength than that. I think they have added some capable alternatives to moly. Finally, let’s talk about the Royal Purple 01335 Max-Tuff Synthetic Assembly Lubricant. Royal purple is by far the most expensive brand on our list.If possible, allow the grease to sit for a few minutes before assembling the parts to allow it to settle. This engine assembly lube falls on the costlier side. But it provides excellent value. Although there are some cheaper alternatives to go for. This is on my list because I didn’t find anything to complain about on this lube. Many high-quality greases have anti seize compounds added as additives. In that case, they will protect you from galling, seizing the engine parts.

Moly grease is not advised for use in sealed bearings. Moly grease should not be applied to regions that are susceptible to ultraviolet or solar radiation. Moly grease is not advised for use with certain materials, including aluminum, copper, and brass. 7. Assembly Lube Vs Grease:What is the difference between assembly lube and grease? The diesel engine building process is one where patience and an eye for the detail is required. Engine building is both an art and a science where following specifications is critical. There is no grey area when it comes to manufacturing or rather remanufacturing a diesel engine. The internal hard parts are machined to correct OEM tolerances, then assembled with the right clearances and then properly lubricated with the right kind of engine assembly grease. Assembly lube is a lubricant used during engine assembly to protect the engine components from wear and tear. On the other hand, if the cylinders are “plateau” honed with a multi-step honing process that includes brushing as the final step, the surface finish on the cylinders will be much closer to a broken-in profile.Shelf life is another very important matter of a grease. You will get a longer shelf life with this lubricant. Most of the cheap lubricants become dry if you put on the shelf for a long period. The flashpoint of the lubricant is almost 550 degrees Fahrenheit. This is very convenient for this type of high-temperature application. But you should be careful while disposing of this lubricant to the environment. Because more than 15 percent of the mixture is hazardous to aquatic lives.
